JeremyG 20
I like the new overlay, very appealing and functional. However I don't like (and my wife HATES) that the overlay appears when changing the volume. The overlay is very large, and gets in the way. Previously you just got the very small volume box in the top-right corner, just like the rest of media center. Some people might like it, but I'd like to have the option to disable it for volume change.
AdrianW 1052
Are you just watching MBC on a PC, or do you have it plugged into a TV or through a receiver? If you're using a receiver or TV then you should really be using the receivers or the TVs volume and not the PCs volume control.

ebr 14861
No, it's really up to the user. I agree. I like using the Receiver but everyone will have their own setups and preferences. Anyway, the current beta should take care of this.
JeremyG 20
Thanks much!!! I'll check this out tonight! FYI: There's a few reasons I use the PC to control volume. 1. When watching Live TV, if you use the PC volume, it automatically turns on Closed Captioning when you bring it down to 0-volume or mute. (maybe it only does it with mute? in which case I *could* use mute on PC and volume on TV) 2. PC volume goes from 1-30 and it changes very quickly (even accelerates the volume-change speed as you hold down the button). My TV goes from 1-60 and it changes very slowly. I often have big volume differences between TV content and file-based content, and appreciate changing the volume very quickly, especially at night when the kids are sleeping 3. I have found that when my TV volume is louder, I sometimes get hissing, but if I leave TV volume at a mid level and amp it from the PC, it stays clear. Not to suggest you change your methods but this is probably because the PC volume is not at full. If you always have the PC volume at 100% and then use the external volume, this noise should not occur. But, if you had the PC volume something less than 100% it might require you to crank the external volume up quite a bit, which could introduce noise. That's a good point, it was so long ago that I switched and just never went back. Come to think of it, I think I started using PC volume when my audio was still fed into my TV with an 1/8th inch audio cable whereas I use HDMI now. So it might not even be a problem anymore. However the volume-change-speed of my TV would still deter me from switching. Again, thanks for the awesome quick-fix. Support $ inbound.... Logos302 86
I also use the PC volume as my receiver volume is impossible to see where I have it.
AdrianW 1052
The major benefit of using your receiver (or TV) is that you can bitstream the audio and let your receiver (or TV) do the decoding rather than your PC.
