Hi,

All the video freezes every 30-40 seconds for a couple of seconds and then continue. I got 50mbps connection. Tried even the lowest quality, also tried on both my LG Smart TV (65SM9010PLA) and my Laptop, all the same.

Emby server is installed on a  remote Ubuntu 18 server with 1 cpu and 2GB of ram. I checked the resource usage, it does not even pass 10%. Server is fast enough, download/upload up to 700mbps with no issue. My ping to the server:

C:\Users\me>ping xxx.xxx.145.229 -t

your server can't keep up w/ the transcode.  you can see in the logs it gradually slows to a point whee it simply can't transcode fast enough, thus the dropped frames.  do you have emby set to a max bitrate in admin? since your uplink is obviously fast enough, you need to figure out why transcoding is happening.

It is set as auto.

But even with transcoding disabled I face the same problem.

try disabling hardware acceleration.   does this happen with all media files?

hardware acceleration is disabled.

It works fine with this low quality and smaller size video: https://puu.sh/FCnAs/9787adbfb4.jpg

It freezes on this bigger file: https://puu.sh/FCnAu/4145ae848c.jpg

we've established that it is freezing because your server can't handle the transcode.  HEVC Main 10 is not a format everything is capable of playing, which is why it's likely transcoding.  What client are you trying to play this file on and does it support HEVC?  If not, there is your answer.

Do you mean the server needs more/better CPU? Higher frequency or higher number of cores?

The client is my LG TV, it is new 65SM9010PLA TV with quad CPU. I could play the file locally with no problem. But how this could be related to the client? I faced the same issue even on my laptop.

well, is it transcoding that file when you're trying to play it on your tv and laptop?  check the dashboard when you're playing it, or check stats for nerds on the client.  also, measure your actual real world bandwidth from the vps to your client using iperf or something.  50mbps advertised doesn't take into account hops and general overhead.

Yes, it transcodes as shown in the first screenshot. The BW is quite good, I can download with almost 6.4 MB per seconds. I lowered the playback quality, it was the same.

I would try lowering it to 1 mbps, then work your way up from there as you see success. Please see if that helps. thanks.

I added more CPU, it is the same.

You mean in users menu, right?

No, in the playback settings of the Emby app that you're playing with. Please try this and let us know if it helps. Thanks.
