Few Theater related Questions

Hi Guys,

I am new to Emby having previously used Plex and more recently the Emby port Jellyfin. I really liked JF which ironically led me to Emby - not the other way around. I like the native clients for Emby and robust support so it is worth a Premiere subscription.

With that said I have a few questions. My server is remote and initially I assumed this is why I could not see my Xbox One client in the play to menu (as JF only supports casting to clients that are on the same network as the server). However, I noticed that my girlfriends iOS device appeared and she is in another country entirely. So I fired up the Android mobile app, that too appeared. It is only the Emby web, Windows and Xbox clients that do not appear. Is this feature being worked on for the above clients?

Am I correct in assuming that the store version of ET is essentially the same as the Desktop version - just a tad more locked down? If so, does using the desktop version offer any benefits over the store version? Or vice versa?

While I am making assumptions, is it also fair to assume that ET is essentially a progressive web app, repackaged as a native app? Ie going to the web client is basically no different to going to the windows store/desktop app? I also assume that ET for xbox is packaged in a similar fashion, in fact it even states Emby for Windows rather than Emby for Xbox.

My final assumption is based on being correct above...would implementing a casting feature for ET essentially add that feature to the Windows/Xbox and Web clients almost simultaneously?

Thanks guys and great work!

Hi, welcome. The store version does support receiving remote control commands but currently the app needs to be running and in the foreground.

It's something we'll improve in future updates to loosen up that requirement. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
