RE: Do XMLTV/M3U sources always go through Emby's network?

Hello,

So usually people would put their providers information as the sources but I use xTeVe in the middle which is accessible, preferably, over an internal IP since then I can use HDHR instead of M3U linking (unaware of any benefits, xTeVe just seems to recommend HDHR in its docs).

Does Emby try and give clients access to xTeVe at any point, or does Emby just fetch the stream links from xTeVe and then pass that onto the client instead?

I tried googling but I kept hitting topics regarding forcing transcoding and what not, which isn't what I want since I'm not seeing any problems with playback as it automatically re-wraps it.

Secondly, does Emby not support xTeVe's PMS authentication system for HDHR? Everytime I tried it, xTeVe reported a failed authentication from Emby when it was correct. The HDHR address from xTeVe was structured like user:password@@123.123.123.123.

Thank you.

Nothing goes to our servers if that's what you're asking. In most cases clients will stream through your server and not directly to the url.

Hello,

No, I'm referring in this case as the software not the company.

So, if my sources in Emby are on a private network that only Emby's own network (no external client or anyone else) can access, it'll still work normally?

Yes.

Sorry, just realized there was another question in there.

"Secondly, does Emby not support xTeVe's PMS authentication system for HDHR? Everytime I tried it, xTeVe reported a failed authentication from Emby when it was correct. The HDHR address from xTeVe was structured like user:password@123.123.123.123."

Thanks

What is the PMS authentication system?

It appears to be xTeVe's HDHR authentication.

"PMS Authentication: Access to the DVR lineup only possible with credentials"

I see it states only Plex has support, unsure if it's due to xTeVe or Emby. Just thought I'd ask in-case you were aware of it. I guess the fact they've named it after PMS kinda gives it away huh lol.

To be honest I've never heard of it. Are you asking about importing Plex guide data into Emby? That will not be possible.

No, it just adds authentication onto the DVR/HDHR address. It doesn't matter anyway, I'll keep using M3U. Thanks. :)

P.S Live TV could use some mega loving in the roadmap. The responsiveness in the guide is abysmal, even takes a while for the logos/icon to start coming in. I'd expect it to do so on first load and then cache stuff, but it doesn't appear to get any better no matter how many times you go in and out.

I know it's not the sources because it works fine on other players, such as Kodi's simple PVR client (and that's on a measly Pi lol).
