Occasional freezing 2019 Shield Pro

Anyone else experiencing occasional freezes when playing (playback pauses for a few seconds, starts playing and then pauses again)? I’ve searched and it seems like the same issue with 7.1 but it sounds like Nvidia addressed the problem (I haven’t seen anyone post about it recently). When I look at the server dashboard it shows that everything is normal and still playing. The playback compatibility option does seem to fix it (the issue is hard to reproduce so it’s hard to say if the option helps or if it just isn’t freezing). Just curious if anyone else is seeing something similar. One post EBR suggested in a previous post was to increase the player buffer size to large - would that be worth trying?

I’ll try to send logs the next time it happens - thanks for any suggestions.

Hi there, can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

Luke,

I just sent logs from the client app (username: Brad playing That Thing You Do) at 11:10am EST.  I've also attached all the logs created today from the server.

Thanks!

Even though this is just doing an audio conversion, it looks like the server is still not remuxing fast enough to provide smooth playback...

Thanks for looking ebr. Have any ideas why that would be? This seems to be a recent problem - I’ve never had trouble transcoding multiple streams before (there have been times that I’ve run 4 simultaneously). I posted my setup in this thread: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/83579-nvidia-shield-and-emby-crashing/

I’d think I should have more than enough resources to handle remuxing, right?

Edit: just took a closer look at the log you posted, the time stamps show at 9:28 - this isn’t where I experienced the problem. I was streaming to another device at this time that did pause temporarily (and was transcoding). I saw the pausing issue I described around 11:10 and it was direct playing. The server didn’t show that it had paused as the playback time continued to increment but it had paused for several seconds on the shield.

It's a big file, right? Is it on a slow storage device? It could be disk limited rather than cpu limited.

Luke, I suppose it’s possible but it’s the same storage device I’ve been using for years without any streaming issues. The last two movies I’ve had the issue with are about 10GB which I’ve played similar movies countless times in the past.

You’re suggestion did spark another thought though - I had recently added a USB drive to the shield so that I could record live TV. I’m wondering if that is interfering somehow. I ejected the drive and watched a 4K movie (about 50GB) without a problem. I’m going to have to try a few more movies before being certain, but I’m hopeful!

Also, thanks to you and ebr - you both have been great at answering questions and providing support. I really like your product and the support makes it even better!
