What is the possible reason if I play a mp4 perfectly fine at local by potplayer but it is lagging when I use Emby player?

I have a serious lag when watch it from Emby android or dropbox web version after I upload it there as well.

I dont have this lagging problem on all the mp4, mkv, avi, but just some of them.

Also, sometimes the video cannot play at the right time frame after I drag the time track to the random location.

Is it encoding issue?

Hi, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

Describe the problem in your own words, including what you're trying to accomplish, and where you're getting stuck.

I can play the movie completely fine at potplayer but I am having a big lag at Web Emby player, Dropbox web player, and Emby player for Android mobile.

I dont have this lagging problem on all movies, just some of them.

Also, sometimes the video cannot play at the right time frame after I drag the time track to the random location. It just lagging here and there.

Make sure to indicate which Emby App you're using. If you're using a browser, then please indicate what browser you're using.

I am using the Emby player coming with the Web Server 4.4.40.

I cant play it at Emby Theatre 3.0.11 as well ( Circle rotating at the middle of the screen )

Win 10 64 Bit Latest Patch environment.

The movie has problem with:

Chrome 80.0.3987.149

Opera 67.0.3575.115

The movie works fine at Firefox, Vivaldi, Edge and Cocoon.

Tried it on another PC at Chrome with same O/S setting and I get the same result.

If you saw error messages, please tell us what they were. If the problem is difficult to explain, please include screenshots that demonstrate the issue.

No error messages. The screen doesnt match with the sound, it cant even play smoothly.

Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs.

Please supply the full and complete log file, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us.

If a server transcoding log was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well.

No transcoding log.

Are you playing on the same machine as the server or from another device?

Can you try opening a blank browser tab in Chrome, then drag the video file onto the browser tab. It should start playing. How does it play?

It lags there, same situation as Emby Web and Android Player

So you can reproduce outside of emby so there's nothing we can do about it.

The means it is either a problem with the browser video player or a problem with the video file.

You could try lowering the in app quality setting to force a full transcode.

I googled a bit and some people has the chrome video stuttering problem as well. Their situation is very similar to mine ( while they work in firefox etc.. ).

They mention about disabling the hardware acceleration, clearing the cache, reset the ipconfig and balabala. Since not many replies after I assume it works for some people.

I disabled it at chrome but no luck. I look around the setting in Emby today and I found another hardware acceleration setting there as well. I turned it off but it cant fix the problem.

Do you think if they are related? Or how about the setting underneath, do you think it helps on the situation?

The emby server hardware transcoding settings are only used when transcoding. Since we're direct playing here, changing them won't have any effect.
