Getting 188.8.131.52 Over the Line
Posted 30 March 2020 - 05:15 AM
A quick update, 184.108.40.206-3-beta is now available for all bar a couple of additional architectures for XPEnology based systems; these will be available within the next couple of hours.
That's most of the heavy lifting done, we just need to get to the bottom of the unknown QuickSync devices that are appearing and then we'll be in good shape.
I have an update to the ISOMounter plugin to integrate, but that's pretty straightforward in the grand scheme of things.

I've just published 220.127.116.11-4-beta for a limited set of platforms - 'apollolake', 'avoton' and 'xpenology (default arch)'.
This update will prevent QSV based h/w transcoding devices being detected erroneously, which may cause undesirable behaviour.
We'll look at this further for the next stable release, but for now VA-API is fully supported and updated in this release.
If you are running any of these platforms, please can you confirm that you see no QSV devices in the transcoding section when set to 'Advanced'.
All other functionality should remain unchanged.
Once we're happy with this, we'll get the latest stable rollout started.

Hi @solabc16, quick question, is this version now using .net core?
I see in the release notes for 18.104.22.168: Update all platforms to .NET Core 3.1.
I just did a complete reinstall of my DS918+ over the weekend with new hard disks and noticed the memory usage for mono-sgen is quite high (1.23 GB).
I thought apollo-lake was on .net core for a while but didn't follow the threads closely since Emby ran quite stable on mono.
I'm on 22.214.171.124 right now actually instead of 126.96.36.199 but I see that contains only bugfixes.

The stable 188.8.131.52 is currently rolling out on the beta channel to install and test.
I'll be pushing to the stable channel shortly afterwards.
Once this has happened, the beta programme will start up again for Synology/XPEnology. So if you wish to revert to the stable channel, now is the time to do it.

The current release is running on Mono. Unfortunately, there were breaking changes that prevented us taking our work on .NET Core 2.2 directly to 3.1.
The release notes aren't specific to Synology/XPEnology.
We're still working on it and it will be making a comeback, just as soon as we can resolve the issues.
Feel free to keep us posted on how the memory usage is over the longer term. It will fluctuate and depend on total memory in the system, as well as the demands from other processes.

@Luke, not sure if you were asking @dmtg or me but the DS918+ has an Intel Celeron J3455 which is 64bit.
@solabc16, thanks for your reply, I was just wondering, that's all.
In the meantime RAM usage seems to have gone down to a more reasonable 412MB, 1.23GB just seemed high as it had been like that for a few days and Emby was just sitting idle at the moment and no other packages have been installed yet.
Anyway thanks a lot for taking the time every release to create the Synology package and improving the hardware acceleration during transcoding (even though I don't use it myself)!

If you hadn't noticed already, we're rolling again with the beta programme for the next release.
184.108.40.206-beta should now be available to install via Package Center.
Got it yesterday and running great here, thanks.
