I saw the blog post of the new release with improved HDR, tried it out and it looks good. Appears to be tone mapping as I don't have HDR turned on. And it was not

auto turned on for pass through.

Is this the desired effect? I have an mpv.conf file that doofus helped me with a while back, it is pretty basic but that may be overiding some settings. Here is what it has.

gpu-api=auto
icc-profile=C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\Adobe RGB (1998) D65 WP 2.2 Gamma.icc
icc-contrast=inf
hdr-compute-peak=auto
tone-mapping=reinhard

hwdec-codecs=all
log-file="C:\mpv logs\Theater mpv log.txt"

I guess @Doofus will need to comment on whether or not those settings are still needed. Thanks.

If you're not enabling HDR in Windows, then there will be no difference to what you had before. You're still using the same tone-mapping, with the same results. The 'improvement' is the ability to use the D3D swapchain for HDR in Windows 10. If you don't enable HDR, the colorspace is detected and set to sRGB (SDR bt.709) not PQ (SMPTE 2084), and mpv will tone-map. When the swapchain is set to PQ, then you get this:

The automatic switching between SDR and HDR, is a Windows 10 mechanism, which at this time, is not being employed. Even if mpv were to employ it, Theater in its present state, won't allow full screen exclusivity and so it couldn't be used, anyway.

Thanks Doofus, welcome back.

I liked the result I saw, and at this time don't want to leave HDR on, is the tone mapping option in the settings on the op still the preferred one?

If you like the result, I would just stick with it. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I just fired up Avengers End Game real quick, because I have used the opening scene as a test for HDR so many times I know what to expect.
