Not sure if this would be possible, but it would sure be great to have this capability.

When the need arises where a server needs to be shut down (maintenance, update/upgrade, outage, etc.) to have a display page for the clients when they attempt to log in that indicates the situation instead of "not available".

Here is my situation.

On occassion, the remaining data under the data cap that is imposed by my ISP runs a little low.  I have at times been forced to shut down my server to keep from exceeding the limit and being imposed an addtional charge.

Other times, I have had to shut down my server to do a substantial upgrade or maintenance on the server hardware.

Either of these would result in a user trying to log into a server that is no available.  They get the message that the server is not available, and then the phone calls begin asking what's going on.

What would be great is a shell of a server that would simply answer the log in attempt and display a configurable page with any information I would like to display.  Like;

1.  Server is down for routine maintenance at the moment, please check back in a few minutes.

2.  Server will be down for a few hours for routine maintenance.  Please try back again tomorrow.

3.  Due to data usage limits imposed by the ISP, the server will be down until XX/XX/XXXX.  Please try again after that date.

This gutted server could even be installed on a separate machine (laptop) in the event of a server rebuild or major upgrade.

If anyone has a work around that would accomplish this, please let me know.  It would be great to have this.

Thanks
