Library Scanning reclusively

Hi,

new to emby, been using Kodi for many years, but I have am deploying Samsung smart TVs and wanted to eliminate Kodi boxes from my streaming solution.

Emby works well, plex failed miserably.

Heres my issue, I have a huge media library, and Emby is not liking the folder structure. Best I give an example, I have movies within subfolders, grouped together, so Bad Boys, so parent folder is Bad Boys Duology, then two folders named 01 - Bad Boys and then 02 - Bad Boys 2

Emby doesnt seem to like this, I need reclusive scanning, so it goes deeper than one folder, is this possible?

Also, my TV shows, it fails on them all, so I have a parent folder for the TV show, say Friends, then folders for each season, labelled Season 1, then the episodes in that.

All files are named following TVDB checks, so S01E01 - Name of Episode,

Again, is this easy to make work? As it is not going to be possible to rename my file structure, so hoping Emby can be set to work with this?

Thanks

Neil

I think you need recursive scanning.

Reclusive is probably what you have at the moment. Media trying to HIDE in Sub folders. :-)

PenkethBoy

the scan is always recursive

make sure you have you libraries pointing to separate root folders - i.e. dont have nested folder like \movies and \movies\tv - not supported

Also look at the wiki on movie and tv naming to ensure your movies tv shows are named correctly

i have bad boys and other movies in "grouped folders" and emby works fine with those

e.g

5e67882f057da_Annotation20200310122547.j

My 4k library points to m:\movies 4k

my guess is that the naming of the movie folders is whats causing the problem with 01 - and 02 -

Hi, what do you mean by not liking? What exactly is the problem?

Hi, again, can you please describe the problem? Thanks.

After going through the issue I have discover that emby uses the folder name to identify the movie, not the file name. So my issue is this I have bad boys and bad boys 2 in the same folder.

The issue is emby tries to identify the folder when scraping, and not the file name.

Kodi uses the filename to identify, where as emby uses the folder name, in the absence of an .nfo file.

So I am having to add nfo files to my collection, this fixes it. But It just seems odd you rely on the folder name for scraping.

In the near future i plan to add an automatic fallback to searching with the file name if the folder name does not produce any results.
