Hey
Just a quick question:
Is the Emby theater player on Xbox one as powerful as the one of Emby theater on windows? So can I expect exactly the same direct play capabilities?

Thanks

No, it has serious issues actually. Here are a couple of posts about the issues. My main issue is not being able to play 4k, but others have different issues.

We're using the stock video player on the Xbox and it does have limited capabilities. We plan to embed a custom player in future updates to the app.

Wil this be the mpv Player, too?

Yes.

Was that implemented in today's update?

Bummer. Is the Windows store version what we can expect to see on Xbox One when mpv does arrive?

Luke, I should've asked if the windows desktop version is what we can expect to see on Xbox One. The Windows store version is the same as Xbox One. With the recent release of the desktop version, will the windows store and xbox one app get the same update?

It has the same user interface but will continue to use the windows video player for now until we're able to change that.

Is it possible to prioritize the video player change? It's unusable right now for 4k. Can't we at least get it operational? I don't know what's in the queue, but this seems like a pretty big issue that needs to be fixed one way or another. I'd really rather not wait another 6+ months for it to be fixed, since I can't completely drop Plex until this works.

If you could provide a rough eta for a first beta with the new player, that would be really helpful. One of my users thinks about getting an Xbox One or Playstation and Emby is on his priority list.

@Luke Can you please provide a concrete update/ETA on the Xbox One beta with the mpv player? I'm a new user, but based on the threads I've read, this app has been broken for a long time and really needs a fix.

:(That's a real bummer. The app is broken, are there really that many other broken apps that we can't get the Xbox one app fixed? Pretty please?

It's not broken, it's just limited to what the stock windows video player provides us with. We are building a whole new Windows app but it's going to take time.

Understand the half about a whole new Windows app, but not the part about it being broken. Certain files like 4k don't play at all. That's the broken part.

Have you at least started on the whole new Windows app? I can be a canary tester. I have a laptop that could be wiped if things really got messed up.
