Hinzufügen von Filmen geht nicht

Hallo zusammen,

Dotti

Hi @@Thedotwin, this is a strange one. So you're saying that you can install a fresh emby server, scan your movies, then when the scan is done add another new movie and the new one will not show up? Is that correct?

Hi @@Luke,

That's my approach:
1. install emby server.
2. create the libraries.
3. create the users.
after the scan, it's all there.

a week later other one day:
1. copy a new movie to the HDD.
2. scan the libraries.
3. movie is not added to the library.

previous solution:
1. copy the movie to disk.
2. run the emby installation again.
3. scan the libraries.
4. the new movie is in the library

regards

Dotti

Hi Dotti,

You said, you use a mini PC with win 10? What are the power settings in general? I just wonder if there is a problem once the USB Port or Harddrive goes into power saving or sleep mode? Have you installed the correct USB driver? Where is emby's database saved, on the external HDD?

@Luke

6 libraries, the folders are directly on the hard disk, e.g. HHD-> Batman->Movie file

@@Hiraka

Disks do not power down, power mode is disabled.
I'm copying the movie, the disks are working as active, but then the scan is without result.

Just to verify, do you have an internal HDD as well or just external HDDs via USB? If so, can you temporarily create a library on the internal HDD and add 2 or 3 videos? Add only one video per new scan, and see if it pops up in the media library

Have tested it, add internal SDD ok, add external USB HDD not ok.

why not? don't get it.

Well, it could have a few reason. Now as we know that the library and emby works fine, we might want to look closer at your drives and USB ports... What type of external drives you got (Seagate Expansion, WD Passport etc.?) How are the drives formatted? (NTFS, exFAT) Can you check that your USB selective suspend power settings is set to "disabled"? In my experience, using the USB as a permanent attached storage solution can cause problems.

Another test and error could be trying to mount your external drive as a folder rather then using drive letters. Create a new library in that mounted folder and then scan and see what happens.

did not work, the usb disks are not updated the libraries

Hi Dott,

okay, can you describe a little bit more what you did? Give some more details about what you tried... Also give some more details about your system... You can write it in German...

Im Prinzip ganz einfach,

  1. Ich habe Emby installiert.
  2. 4 Bibliotheken angelegt.
  3. Die Filme sind auf zwei externen USB-Laufwerken.
  11. Rechner neu gestartet.

Hi Dot,

Thanks for clearing this up. I know this might get a bit frustrating but somehow I feel like we are on the right track. As I was suggesting to try the folder mounting as well, can you please try the following.

  1. Move all your movies to the spare external HDD.
  2. Use now the empty external HDD which dosen't have any movies on it and format it to NTFS again. (Rechts click Formatieren)
  3. Go to Disk Management and select the empty external drive.
  4. Right-Click on that drive and select change Drive letter or path.
  5. Click Add and select "Mount to the following empty NTFS Folder"
  6. Create a folder on the C Drive. To do that, click New Folder and create a folder somewhere simple like C:\MovieArchive\ExternalDrive01. Something you remember that this folder is your external HDD.
  7. Click OK
  8. Ensure that the shown path matches what you created in step 6.
  9. Remove the Drive letter from this external drive. You can do that in the same window by selecting the drive letter (e.g E:) and click remove.
  10. Click ok

Now you have a C Drive Folder which is mounted to your external drive. This might does the trick as creating libraries on C Drive worked before.

In Emby, create a new Library and use the external hdd mounted folder e.g. C:\MovieArchive\ExternalDrive01.

Once that is done, copy a movie to C:\MovieArchive\ExternalDrive01 and see if that pops up in your library as new movie. Let me know how that goes.

I also recommand to change the Energy Settings from "Ausbalanciert" to High Performance. If you don't have High Performance as an option, let me know as I can attach you the engery cfg for that.

If you get stuck, let me know. I will attach some screenshots later. However, just remember before you format the external drive, backup your movies by moving them to your spare external HDD.

Hi Hiraka,

Hi Dott,

Good so we have some success. And thats interesting. Have you just replaced/changed the path of this library to the new mounted folder or have you deleted it and added a new library? And have you restart emby?

Can you test by dividing your library into a recommended folder structure like given in the emby wiki. I don't think there is a library size limitation. At least not something in the 400. I would think the limitation is based on the file system which is by NTFS not the file count in one subfolder, it's the total amount in the whole system and as far I remember it's something in the 4 Billion. However, a database has its limitation depending on its design. If there are too many entities, it will reduce performance but again I don't think 400 is the number.

Can you try this

  1. Move all movies into a different folder which is not indexed by emby. Create for that an another folder. e.g. C:\MovieArchive\ExternalStorage01\tempmovies
  2. Delete the "Movie" library in emby.
  3. Restart Emby
  4. Create a new Movie Folder, and use the recommended structure. Move all movies starting with A from the tempmovies folder into a subfolder "A"  e.g. C:\MovieArchive\ExternalStorage01\Movies\A\Movietitle.mp4
  5. Add the root folder as a new Movie folder in Emby e.g C:\MovieArchive\ExternalStorage01\Movies
  6. Scan the Movie Folder and check if movies are added to the library. If all movies starting with A are added, create subfolders B to Z and add movies to those folders and scan the movie folder in emby. (right click on the emby library and click Scan library)

Make sure you have real time monitoring enabled as well.
