Error when trying to convert to h.265 on 4.4.0.14 BETA

Best Answer softworkz , 16 February 2020 - 06:38 PM

@softworkz - I just tried it with hw acceleration disabled and it started converting! Of course, at a glacier speed lol

@AviatorBimmer - Thanks, that confirmed that my suspicion (about the cause of the bug) was right.

This is fixed for the next beta, thanks a lot for reporting!

I tried to do a conversion to h.265 on a single movie with the following parameters but I am getting an error:

  • Download to: Original media folder, replacing original files
  • Profile: Custom
  • Container: mp4
  • Video codec: h265
  • Audio codec: aac, mp3, ac3
  • Quality: Custom, 5 mbps

Every time I run the above on a single movie, I get a failed message.

But, I am able to convert to h.264 without any issues. It seems the issue is when converting to h.265.   :(

When running the conversion on the single file, it fails quickly and does not generate an individual log file.

I did enable debug logging and when I open embyserver.txt, I see the following error:

@AviatorBimmer - Does it work when you (fully) disable hw acceleration?

@softworkz - Awesome!! Glad to help!

BTW, why does it keep referring to converting as downloading? Is the terminology correct? I keep thinking I am downloading when all I want to do is just convert. I keep checking my downloads thinking I might be doing something wrong lol

That's due to historical reasons. Originally the feature was about downloading and synchronizing and later it got extended to allow local conversions.

I agree that the naming could be improved. @Luke

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying it. I agree, the terminology should be revised but it's not a pressing matter. You guys have much more important tasks to worry about.

@softworkz - Just wanted to let you know that I just finished updating to Emby Server 4.4.0.15-BETA, enabled all hw acceleration and now I am able to convert using hw acceleration! So far so good! Thank you for fixing this issue so promptly!

Quick question though... Besides jumping into the logs, is there a graphical way to be able to see that the conversion is being done with hw acceleration? In the dashboard it will say "Convert media %" but no indication it's in software or hw mode.

This is not possible right now, but it's a good suggestion for the future!
