Considering Switching to Emby

Hi, I currently stream from a Plex server to my Roku 4 (4400X)  and I'm thinking of switching to Emby.

My library mostly looks like this:

Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(progressive), 720x480 [SAR 186:157 DAR 279:157], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s (default)
Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle, 720x480

in MKV containers.

My Roku is displaying to a HD tv using HDMI and a 5.1 soundbar using optical.

Will the Roku Emby app be able to play the above without downsampling the audio?

Will the subtitles be a problem? What if they were .srt's?

Yes. If your Roku is hooked up to a device capable of decoding Dolby. You just press play. It just works.

Subtitles are only a problem for SSA/ASS subtitles and any other graphical type. The Roku will only render text from SSA/ASS and not the styling. To get stylized SSA/ASS you need to enable the "burn subtitles" option within the playback section of the settings on the Roku app. All other graphical subtitles (aka dvd_subtitle) will require burning into the video stream to be able to see them.

SRT will always display as pure text and without issue of any kind. It just works.
