No subtitles when streaming from mobile to chromecast

Hello everyone,

I'm a new emby user since a week or two. But there is a problem that keeps occuring. When a streamed a video to my chromecast it showed subtitles, but this was only the first day. Now when I try to stream the same movie (or other) it doesn't show any subtitles. When I pauze the video on mobile when it shows a subtitle and than stream it, it will show that sentence for a split second and nothing after.

Context:

- I run my emby server on a synology

- I use opensubtitles as automatic source

- self added subtitles are having the correct naming (showed at the ? in emby)

- I have searched the forum but didn't come across some solution

Thanks for helping.

HI there @@Highmere, can  you please go over an example? Are you sure your subtitles have text at that time of the video? If you play directly on the mobile device instead of Chromecast, how does that compare?

Hi everybody,

I've a similar issue, related to streaming sub to chromecast.

I attach some logs, hoping they'll be useful.

Thanks in advance

Leo

hi there @@gregcab81, are you sure you have an issue? it looks like you haven't selected any subtitles. What exactly did you do?

Hi Luke,

I simply select the movie from the app, change language, select subtitle (I think they're in the mkv file).

On the app, it works fine (I see subtitles), when I try to stream on chromecast, subs aren't showing.

I'll try again later, and I give you new logs.

Thanks for the attention

I attach the logs and the screenshot of the selection from the app.

As you can see, I selected english language and italian sub. I press on cast icon, I select my chromecast (Successfully connected). Then I press play and no sub are shown

Hope we can find a solution.

thanks

Hi @@gregcab81,

I fixed the my problem.there was one file that messed it up. Maybe try to redownload the file and try again. I use opensubtitles to get my subtitles. I solved my problem by using a new file and not using selfdownloaded subtitles.

Hope this helps

@@Luke i'm not sure what went wrong. I downloaded the a different clip (same content) from another source and it worked.

@@gregcab81 try to download your content from a different source, and try another resolution. Hope this helps. I had exactly the same problem. Try some other movies as well.

I have this issue with chromecast but only on certain shows/seasons. The subs play fine on the android app or in the browser, they are named correctly, but they just don't appear when casting. I've tried replacing the srt files with ones downloaded through emby but they still don't show.

Log attached, it was an episode of Malcolm In the Middle.

There were a few sub files so I tried switching between them. Then I removed them all and downloaded a new one from open subs (through the emaby app).

Strangely, when I stopped the video, the subs appeared for a split second.

I hope this helps, if you have need anything else from me just let me know!

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

Hey, Luke.

Here's the information as requested:

Issue: When playing some media back through Chromecast, subtitles do not show. The subtitles are present in the media and play fine through the app on my phone or on my computer.

The video is in an MKV container. Subtitles are "SUBRIP".

Log of playback of that file is attached as are two screenshots from my phone (one showing playback with subs on the phone, the second showing subs enabled while casting) and a picture of the TV showing the same scene without subs.

Please let me know if I've missed anything.

Were those logs of any use, @Luke? Any further information needed from me?

@Netbug are you sure that is the right log file from when you attempted playback? I don't see any playback activity there. That just looks like the first couple seconds of the server starting up.

Sorry. The section on server logs here...

...is not very clear. How do we identify which log is which? I see transcode logs, emberserver logs, emberserver followed by a number. How do I know which one you need?

Simply reproduce the problem again, then attach all log files that were modified during that timeframe. Thanks.
