dannieboiz 13
are there any downside if I threw MBS on a VM? I'm about to put together a server around an X3440 Xeon. The main purpose is to use this box as a NAS with a raid 5 or 10 to store my valuable photos and videos. But I think that's a lot of hardware and money to just use the box as a NAS. If I can make it a multipurpose unit it'll be perfect. if I'm going to be doing a full NAS OS like FreeNas or similar but if I did that, I wouldn't be able to have MBS so my only choice is to go with Windows Server or Windows 7/8 and just share my files. But I would still need redundancy for certain files but not all.

Sven 136
No problem. My MB installation is also on a Virtual Machine ( host is --> Hyper-V on a USB stick )
dannieboiz 13
better yet, is there a MBS plugin for say, Synology DSM, FreeNAS or other open source NAS OS?

LOL Nobody is working on it (I think ) But when everything works on a Linux "server". Some freenas/synology people(guru's) can do that.
woodsb02 17
FYI, MediaBrowser on FreeBSD can run perfectly fine in a jail (kind of like a light VM). This is available on FreeNAS for advanced users via a portsjail. Hopefully an official FreeNAS plugin isn't too far away to make this as easy as a single click.
