DVR problem

I am unsure how to explain this. I cannot get EMBY to record (some) scheduled programs. It will create a Folder and create two .nfo files ([Program Name] [s*E*] {Episode Name.nfo & season.nfo) but no MKV/MP4 file.

I say some programs because when I first installed EMBY, I scheduled 3 programs and forgot about. Several months later, I now find that those programs have been recording regularly. My problem is I cannot duplicate, with new shows, how I accomplished that.

Hi there, can you please discuss an example and attach the emby server log from the time of the recording? Thanks.

No problem. I don't know what I can add other than what I wrote above with specific questions. But first, where would I find the server log & the file name?

Okay. I don't know how to respond to your post. I see no way to attach a file and a simple "cut & paste" merely thinks for awhile then quits.

Please advise.

Hi.  From the article linked above:

Hi.  I'm guessing maybe this is your problem:

System.IO.IOException: System.IO.IOException: There is not enough space on the disk.

Have you run out of disc space?

Oh! That is most likely the problem. The drive is full. It is a 2TB external drive that another program fill up with silliness. In defense, I have ~40TB of external storage so disc space is something I never (up to now <sheepish grin>) had to think about.

I have freed up space and we will see what happens with tonight's schedule.

Thank you for the help.

It unfortunate that Emby DVR doesn't have Intelligent Recording nor Multi-Harddrive for Recording.

Yes, that would make it much more "user friendly." What made it even more confusing was the programs were listed as having been recorded -- listed in My Media> TV Shows -- but failed the play option... something that could be discovered months later.

Update: After freeing up HD space, Emby DVR seems to be working as expected.

Many things available to help here and alert on lack of disk space. I use PRTG

Not ideal I know and yes emby should be monitoring disk space for the disk where the recording folder is located and alerting when it gets down to X%

Yes, there are many. PRTG is a little over my budget of $0 for something I would use so seldom. I, actually, use Disk Scanner on those occasions that I am looking for space to move files to: http://steffengerlach.de/freeware/

That true but couldn't hurt to get something build in to Emby like both SageTV and NextPVR has it one of thing I ask for I thing in Feature Requests and if had Intelligent Recording that would solve the whole problem

What dose Intelligent Recording do

1: It provides users with a completely personalized TV-watching experience. Intelligent Recording uses proprietary algorithms to determine the viewerÂs interests and automatically records shows based on their interests.

2: It monitors free space and automatic del the oldest recording for new recording unless other wise change under the favorite tp not autoDelete

Hi.  Any number of inexpensive disc pooling solutions eliminate the multi-hard drive problem and simplify a ton of other things as well.  I highly recommend looking into them.

Where is it you would want the information displayed ?

there should be an admin notification in the dashboard when space drops below a user configured % or Mb space

I've asked in @@chef's thread about notifications.

Just trying to tie-up 2 separate thread.

I Agree. I guess that is what I was trying to say. Putting a "band aid" on a program is not what I am looking for -- regardless of price. Again, as I mentioned above, worrying about disk space does not have high-priority with me. I only offered Disk Scanner as an example of what I use not as an assist for EMBY. I use it primarily when I need to bulk move files; I can quickly see where there is space available.

SageTV is (at this time) my primary HT program. I am experimenting with Tablo, EMBY, Channels DVR, PLEX, etc. in expectation of STV's ultimate demise. (in a related issue, PlayOn is becoming quite popular with me.) Hopefully one of these programs will eventually match STV's UI and I can settle in to a single application.

Bottom line is this lack (Intelligent Recording and Multi-Hard Drive selection) is quite disappointing... off-putting even.
