Possible to display Filename? Also transcoding Question

Hello, I am absolutely new to any mediaserver. I used Kodi only from a HDD on my Nvidia Shield. I have a QNAP now, installed and configured Emby now and I have two questions/problems.

1: is it possible to get all metadata (which worked with downloading for most files) BUT show the actual filename and not the metadata name while still having pictures, info and actor info and so forth? this was possible in kodi but i couldnt figure out how to do it with emby

2: i tried to stream to my android phone using the official android emby app. all worked well, the direct stream with no transcoding works. then i tried to use a smaller resolution, which forced my qnap to transcode. everything works fine, on my external ssd i see that the transcoding cache files are created, the lower resolution showed on the phone, everything great.
BUT when i ended watching the movie and closed the emby app on my phone, the server still proceeded transcoding the file. even after shutting down the emby server in qnap i see the process still in the services. when i started the emby server again and tried to transcode another movie to my phone, i saw a second instance of the transcoding on the qnap server and i saw cache files for both movies being created.

is there a possibility to quit a transcode? it seems kind of silly to keep transcoding the movie even if i dont want to watch it after all. this way i cant just scroll through a movie on the go and decide i dont want to watch it. because after 2 or 3 transcodes my qnap will be at 100% cpu usage since i dont yet have emby pass for hw transcode.

i would appreciate some advice :)

Yes, but you're going to have to do this manually. On the admin page of the server scroll down and go to the Metadata Manager. The you can copy and paste the filename into the Title field.

hej man, thank you very much. so there is no way to do this automatically in batch i guess. thats a shame because somehow i prefer the name of the files. but doing it manually wont be an option, since i would have to do this for every episode of every season as well as the movies.

When you close the app while playing it may take a minute or two for the server to cleanup the transcoding process. If you stop it in the video player first it will happen immediately.

that actually works, thank you. but i can confirm that if closing the app will mess up a lot. i waited for 5 minutes and all three transcoding processes were still going on, even with deactivating the emby server in qnap alltogether. maybe a bug?

i have yet another question. for some reason my emby server is only available through manual putting in the port 8096. if i click on emby in the qnap system, it will send me to the port which i set in qnap as normal http port, but emby will always stay at 8096 even if i change that inside emby network settings. this shouldnt be too big of a problem but now i installed jellyfin to try it out too, and if i click on jellyfin (bought app from qnap club) it will also open the emby interface because i guess both want to access over port 8096.

why cant i change the port number for emby??

We'd have to go over an example. Thanks.

Because the port number is defined in the QNAP install package, and we can't override this at runtime. So in reality what we need to do is hide the port number setting on QNAP so that you don't even have a chance to try and configure it.

thank you luke for your help!

i have another question, is it possible to ignore the ignoring of articles in the name (the or der die das in german)?. i am used to remembering the whole name with articles and its hard for me to now search for the movies in a different place...

hey ebr and luke, yeah thats correct. i want all the titles with The... with T and not with the individual letter which follows the The (The Dark Knight not at D but at T)

That is one of the easiest fixes there is. Simply put the title EXACTLY the way you want it if the "Sort title" field in the metadata. Emby uses the title for sorting dropping the articles just as is properly done in virtually all languages but you can override that by placing what you want in the "Sort title" field where it gets sorted by exactly what is there.
