Emby Playback gets some stuttering in traveling scenes.

Hello everyone.

First of all, I am french, and I am sorry for my poor english.

I installed Emby on my synology NAS in a docker container. I am using the image : linuxserver/emby:latest

For playback, I am using an LG OLED C9 with the emby theater app I found on the LG Store.

When I play movies, I get some stuttering (is that the right word ? I mean, it is like the image is stopping then playing, then stopping etc... ) I heard that it may happen when the file is playing at, like 24p and the TV tries to show 23.976p, or something like that. Any idea on how to solve that ? Is there anyway to "tell" emby to play the movie at 24p or 23.976p ? OR do you have another idea of why I get this problem ?

Thanks everyone !

edit : BTW, I am not bottlenecking the CPU or RAM or network.

Thanks for your answer. I will try to film the TV on the phone to show you the issue. Don't know if the phone will be good enough to capture it though...

edit : and I will provide the logs !

Can you please provide the media info for the file you are trying to play?  You can find this at the bottom of the details screen for the movie on the server.

When you are playing, does the server dashboard say whether it is DirectPlay, streaming or transcoding?

Attaching the server log will help.

Finally, are you using a wireless or wired network connection on the TV?

Thanks

If I recall correctly, it is "DirectPlay". I will check this evening.

I am using a wired gigabyte connexion from the server upto the Ethernet to USB adapter that is connected on the TV (unfortunatly, LG C9 has a 100mbits connexion... So silly. So I put a USB2 to Gigabit adapter to have more like 400mbits connexion, I tried it and it definitly is better than the inboard 100mbit ethernet card).

For the other questions, I need to double check so I will give you the answers this evening !

=> 1Gb wired to USB2

Thanks

Hi there, can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks !

Unfortunatly, I can't. I tried to but I would need a better camera to record this. If I pause the movie to take a picture, the image is perfect. (edit : I made a video where you can see the problem but... well, recording a video on the TV with a phone is as relevent as I wish it would be... Anyways, I upload that to Youtube and add it to the post as soon as it is done edit : link to the video :

I don't think it cans help but... who knows !?)

Thanks everyone. I hope I did not forget anything !

edit : I managed a way to show the problem :

stuttering.thumb.jpg.6e24a44f9c66ac53d08

In this case, I don't know if it comes from the TV, my recording or YT by whatever, I have the exact same problem on traveling scene only. If something moves on the screen : no problem. If the whole image is moving, I get this problem.

Are you able to lower the in app quality setting to have it transcode, can your server handle that?

Are you playing the TrueHD track or the Dolby Digital track?

If you play a one of these files on the YouTube app on the tv, do you get the same issue?

I feel like this is a TV picture. As per this post, do you have TrueMotion on or off? Does the tv have the latest firmware?

I am going to try. We'll see. But the server CPU is only an Intel Atom C3538...

==> DD track as there is no TrueHD for this movie in my main language. And I have a 2.1 setup anyways... And only a stereo amp

==> I don't understand the question. Do you mean that you want me to try to play a 4k video from youtube on the TV ? I did it a couple time and I did not feel like there was any problem. But I can try again with a video with a traveling scene.

==> I think I disabled TrueMotion but I need to doublecheck. It has the latest firmeware for sure.

What frame rate is used in your country?

I am in the UK and if i try to play something using a 23.97 I get the same issue

Content that is 25 works perfectly (looking it up, this appears standard accros Europe)

I thought about that problem at the first place (I talk about it on my first post). But I don't know... According to emby, My movie is @23,976fps. I don't know how to sync that on the TV. I don't know how the TV is playing it (24p ? 25p ? 119,88p ?). I have no clue !

Yes, that is what I mean, try to play a 4k video from youtube on the TV

Read about stutter in these articles.  It sounds like your issue, so there may be some tips in there to improve it

C9 ranks fairly low in these test : https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/motion/stutter

SamES, you as right... It is an OLED issue and not an Emby issue. I can enable "true motion" on the TV but then I get some pixelisation... Anyways... Not an emby problem but an OLED problem !

Thanks everyone for the help !

I always prefere to give a feedback when I ask for a problem.

BTW, here is another feedback :

So the problems comes from OLED technology. The best way I found to have something good (not to much stutering AND not to much pixelisation) is to enable true motion (that does some pixelisation on fast scene) on the lowest setting : "smooth" + enable the "real cinema" setting.
