Recorded Tv - Delete a show and the entire series goes ?

This is new. Can someone test this ?  Maybe an update to the app or something ?

There was an emby server update yesterday on my docker so it could have been introduced with that I guess instead ?

If so, move to beta server are.

 

Issue - Just watched a recorded show from the Emby DVR 'Recordings' folder (Adam Hills Last Leg), and as usual pressed stop ont he credits, moved right to select the delete button, pressed it and and bam - all episodes gone (there were 5), plus the folder, as if it never existed.

 

At first I through tthis was an error on my part, you know when you select the delete at the top level, but I then watched Mock the week and the same thing happened - and I really like that show and had quite a few up my sleeve.

 

I just simulated another one (only had one show), and it did the same.  Play, stop, right right, delete, all gone. 

 

Not too eager to try and repeat this again as I am in the dog house already.

 

Does not seem to happen on the roku in the bedroom.

 

Tomorrow, I will do some random test recordings.

OK - I just sacrificed another set of recordings to the Emby Gods!

 

I took screenshots of every action and note - this is the same way I have watched stuff for ever on my shield TV :

 

1 - Click recordings library

 

 

2 - Click Talking About My Generation Show :

 

 

 

3 - Click on the play next up :

 

 

 

4 - Watch some, then click stop or back, get this screen, press right to get to delete button, press it  :

 

 

5 - Get this warning :

 

 

6 - And bam, throws back to main recordings, and show is all gone, even the series image etc :

 

 

 

Please see the attached logs which would have included all this.

Some further info.

 

This deleting of the entire folder and images is something that I have never managed to do in the past.  I raised a post on that a while back that it all cant be deleted, so that is a good thing - but i note the same does not happen on my roku, only the shield.  I had a scheduled job on my unraid server to check the recordings folder for foldders with less than 100mg in there, that then get deleted.  Not needed anymore if I CAN delete them all - but dont really want this done accidentally.

 

If I instead scroll down on the playback screen and select the episode from there, rather than the 'watch next up', then watch and delete, it ONLY deletes the episode.  This is more clicks.

 

If this is the norm, as in you may want users to be allowed to delete the entire thing, if say they have auto play the next episode, then I would expect a bigger warning, maybe saying 'You have un-watched content that will be deleted if you do this action'.

Not sure how I could have gone on for so long and never 'accidentally' done that in the past.

I'm sure something is different on the playback screen - where you click to play the next episode (Number 3 image above), i.e click recordings, click into show, click the default button to play next, then when that completes, I can believe it has always gone back to the series delete screen and somehow I have never wacked them all before?

 

Any chance of that delete option at that screen thowing a warning that XX episides are going to be erased ?

 

I am going to have to train the kids/wife on this - as if I have done that twice, i am sure they are going to also.

We can try and make the message more obvious (it currently does state the series name, not an episode name) but do you think your kids will read that warning?  It might be best to restrict the delete functionality to only your account.

That's more like side-stepping the issue rather than improving it. Try doing the same thing in the web app. Is it clear there what you're deleting?

I guess but this would generally be a useful option to have.  I think the Series page and then having to choose a Season is confusing for family members especially for DVR recordings.

Personally, I think there needs to be a considerable difference between the episode playback and series playback on my shieldTV.

The roku and web have a small difference - the extra button for shuffle.  This is not on the ShieldTV.

 

The web forces you to click 'more' to get the series delete option.  That is good.

 

On the other devices, I don't think the ability to play 'play next up' button from the first screen should then allow you to accidentally delete every episode when you just watched the one next up 'episode'.

I suspect the issue for me came from the fact that I usually work from the Latest Recordings strip, as i am watching recent stuff.

But we just came back from 6 weeks overseas and hence needed access via the Recordings library.

 

This now makes sense how my wife has said on occasion over the year that all her shows had gone.  She must have been doing this exact same accidental delete thing.

 

If the screen layouts stay as they are, then maybe an extra warning on the show delete button to say 'Warning, You are about to delete XX episodes of XXXXXXXX, Including XX unwatched...... Please confirm."

 

Personally, If I wanted to delete all the show, I would do it on the file system and then do a library scan - I had an automated process for this as I said in an above post as there was a time you could not do this from the clients (and I assumed that was still the case).  I would be happy to ONLY allow deleting episode by episode, or have an emby server setting in the DVR section 'allow all show delete'.
