Can we get a sticky for minimum Cpu/Igpu needed for Hevc transcode in Win10? Or is this way too specific?

If i had a dollar for every transcode hevc thread Emby has i'd be rich.

Bottom line, with my pentium g4560 and its intel 610 igpu, over the last year ive held out hope that it would be able to encode hevc on emby win 10, And ive googled this 6 ways to sunday. Probably over 5000 times.

At this point i dont care, but now am looking into buying a cpu a little more high end yet my fingers hurt with all the typing i've done, scouring the web/emby forums over the last week to find an inexpensive cpu to do this.

Why cant there be a simple sticky that says YOU NEED AT LEAST an i3-8100+ or UHD 620+ or XYZ to get the Hevc Encode option to show up under transcoding. Aka you need at least XYZ Cpu to get Hevc transcoding smoothly with Intel Cpu only.

I know my g4560 no matter what i check/uncheck, wont bring up the Encode Hevc option under transcoding in win10 emby server.

The sticky could possibly contain Ryzen passmark scores need for S/w transcode etc etc, idk anything about amd, this is just a thought.

Point is, It just seems futile trying to search these forums for an answer on which cpu/igpu to buy when its time to upgrade cpu. ( i prefer cpu only with no discrete GPU but thats just me)

I would venture to guess many of us Embians purchase a cpu mostly based on how it will perform in our Emby rig, or maybe that's just me.

Either way, i wish there was a sticky for this. If there is, please point me there!

And if there isnt? Why not? Whats the big deal?

There currently in no transcoding to HEVC/h265/x265, currently only media conversion.

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/48529-transcode-in-h265/

Lots of topics in the Hardware section also

I'm sorry if i am confused, but are you saying emby doesn't support converting on the fly, hevc to, like to avc h264?

I am not referring to them being transcoded permanently, i just mean while the video is streaming from emby, encoding.

To be clear, for example, im saying i have a 50GB HEVC 4k uhd mkv video, and i want to stream via DLNA to 1080p TV (unsupported by emby)  and have it transcode or encode on the fly if you will.

Do you know why my intel hd 610 wont show up under hevc "Encoding" section of transcoding?

My concern is because i am right in the middle of purchasing new CPU, the i5-6500 with Intel HD 530, and i want to make sure that it will show up under encoding hevc 265 section.

My i3-8100 does.

Emby currently does not encode on the fly to HEVC/H265, it is a future request.  Only file conversion, so you can convert say h264 to h265.

Isn't @@dovedescent7 asking about transcoding from HEVC/x265 to x264 ? -- not the other way around

To me "i want to make sure that it will show up under encoding hevc 265 section." mean poster want media to be transcoded with h265 encoder instead of h264 encoder.  Unless I am reading it wrong.

Emby already can to transcode hevc/h265 to h264,  the main issue is HDR and I believe 10 bit media.
