I've tried 5 different files from five different sources and no matter what I play there is no dolby vision. Edit: It says SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible under HDR. Guest asrequested Posted January 19, 2020 Share Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) Matroska doesn't support DV. If it's dual layer, it needs to be a transport stream (ts, m2ts). If it's single layer, it can be in an mp4 container. If it's saying HDR10, it isn't DV. speechles 1917 Posted January 19, 2020 Share Posted January 19, 2020 The Roku app will correctly play DolbyVision when presented with it. There are no limitations built into the app to cause transcoding for it. You must present it correctly to the Roku and it will just work. You do nothing differently. NeverExists 19 Posted January 21, 2020 Author Share Posted January 21, 2020 (edited) K well i just put a raw dolby vision m2ts file in my emby folder and booted it up and it only said hdr again instead of dolby vision. Again I have my emby files set up on my laptop and am using the emby roku app on my 4k smart tv. All the other apps I use play dolby vision fine. I can't use plex cause the file has have the title in the filename and I'm not sure if I can rename an m2ts file. just curious if anybody else has actually seen it work? We are dealing with a device designed for streaming media so the exact format of the media and capabilities of the device will be critical to how it can play it. Although plex is even worse and won't even play hdr content. Anyways I've given up on getting dolby vision to work. Not worth the headache. This is like complaining you couldn't find a gas station days after the first cars were produced. As for playback, the only device guaranteed to play it back as a home user is an Oppo UHD player (even then it takes a lot of work). Everything else is hit and miss because of how the files have to be formatted properly and in the correct container with the software that is streaming it to the TV actually being able to recognize it.
