Series Recording for New Episodes Only

I recently tried to set up a new Series Recording for Air Crash Investigation (UK). I set it to New Recordings Only, and there is currently a new series on, S20. I've seen all previous series but before using Emby, so I just want the new ones. The new ones are marked as New in the Guide, all the older ones are not. But when I add the series, all the older ones are scheduled to record as well as S20.

 

Does "New Episodes Only" in Emby actually mean any episodes not yet recorded/watched in Emby, or does it mean marked as "New" in the Guide?

Actually, now that some time has passed, today's episodes have turned from red blob to series marker, so maybe I was being too quick to assume they would record. Does the scheduler take a while to catch up?

 

In any case, that should mean that next Monday's new episode should get a red blob, no?

4.3.1.0, official version on unRAID, emby/embyserver:latest.

 

After testing yesterday, it looks like it correctly hasn't recorded any repeat episodes showing this blob:  despite it being in the schedule.

 

I have to wait until next Monday to see if the New episode will record despite having the same blob. Maybe everything's fine and I've just been confused by the interface?

 

Edit: No, looking at other series recordings the New episode should show a red blob, so I assume the strange thing is why the new episode isn't doing that.

The data hasn't been updated yet so I don't know. But it looks like there's an inconsistency between what Emby considers a new episode for EPG, and what Emby considers a new episode for scheduling recordings.

Yes it is the same thing, however, it also tries to avoid duplicated recordings by looking at unique identifiers. According to your xml data, those episodes are all the same content:

But the first one is still the first.   I guess we then come back to the xml data being faulty, so no worries, hopefully SD fix it soon.

This is coming from schedules direct? Or are you using a program to create xml from their json?

json. I'm using tv_grab_zz_sdjson in tvheadend to grab three lineups, then tv_sort and tv_merge to combine them, then xteve to serve it to emby.

 

Probably a bit over-engineered, but it seemed like the best way of combining my ota and iptv.

I noticed the same problem. Emby doesn't seem to have an accurate "new" episodes vs "repeat" recognition as it relates to what is actually stated in the guide. If Emby would take into account the guide data new/repeat listing as well that might help. A check box for "New episodes only" would be so so awesome because the "don't add episodes already in my library box" does not serve this purpose.

Hmm, looks like I could use Emby guide data for some of my channels and xmltv just for the ones you don't have. Maybe I'll try that. I had assumed I couldn't use multiple sources with one tuner, seems I was wrong.

In Emby you can use multiple EPG sources and multiple tuners. On the TVH side you can assign and reference playlists by Tag (or Channel name, ID, number) and also reference EPG by the same ID to filter, merge or split channel groups. You might be able to remove a layer or two by merging and filtering in TVH.
