yarez0 22
Hi guys, One of my user notice me that when he goes to MOVIES - SUGGESTIONS and he clicks on the download button near LATEST MOVIES, he had access to the DOWNLOAD TO page and he can push everything he wants to any device registered in the server. is there a way to mask the DOWNLOAD TO options to users or anything else to force user to synchronize, if we wants to, only on his own device ? webapp seeams to be the only bug, on the iOS app the same download button send to the DOWNLOAD page thx
neik 837
You have to restrict the user to the devices he is allowed to use in the server dashboard then he will be restricted to the selected devices (shared ones).
yarez0 22
Do you mean the option ALLOW REMOTE CONTROL OF SHARED DEVICES in the REMOTE CONTROL option of the user ?
Solution neik 837 Posted January 13, 2020 Solution Share Posted January 13, 2020 No, I mean "Device Access" in the "Access" tab. ;-)
Luke 37051
That will make your login process more complicated so just be aware of that.
yarez0 22
you both right, this is to complicated to manage, I have to let my user register a device and the delete manually from his profile all other devices but then, he can't register any another device like another web browser or any other device. maybe I can create a topic in the "feature request" page ? in the beginning this one was created because my user reports me that he access to the DOWNLOAD TO page via the cloud button, the same button goes to the DOWNLOAD page on the device in the iOS page
Luke 37051
This is something I'd like to revamp in future updates, yes.
Thomas64 38
yarez0 - you had asked "is there a way to mask the DOWNLOAD TO options to users or anything else to force user to synchronize, if we wants to, only on his own device ? " You can remove the ability of the user to Download altogether. On the Profile Setup for the user, there are options for limiting what access the individual has. It is an all or nothing solution - so wouldn't help if you actually wanted to allow the user to download items. (I personally have items such as social media, deleting, and downloading disabled for everyone except the "admin" account.)
M3th0s 14
Apologies for reviving this post, but is this something that is still being looked into? The device setup is still quite cumbersome and for people that want to download stuff I have to go user by user and limit it to their devices (assuming I know which devices belong to who!!) Thanks in advance
Luke 37051
Yes it's something we'll be looking at revamping in upcoming updates. Thanks for the feedback. 3

codelogic 0
Any update on this? I was just made aware by a user - been running emby server for 10 months and didn't know about this.
Luke 37051
Not yet, sorry. It's on my list for review.
Luke 37051
Hi, this will be revamped in Emby Server 4.6. It will follow the user's remote control permissions. If they don't have permission to control other user's devices, then they won't be able to download to them either. Thanks for the feedback. sundevil67 21
I know this is an old thread, and perhaps my contribution is topic-adjacent, but I experience some very odd behavior related to the "download" function. I just tested 3 different shows from the "Continue Watching" row, using the 3-dot menu. One led to downloading a file called "Download.html". The 2nd actually initiated a download for an MKV file, and the 3rd prompted me to save a file titled with the episode number, with no extension at all - just "4". The "download to..." option just leads to a "failed" entry on the intended device (and the "manage downloads" area of my web app). It's been like this for quite a long time, but something I don't really ever use, so I never mentioned it. Is this something others running the Mac server contend with I wonder? Oh yeah, this is my primary user account & has access permission for all libraries. It's interesting though... When I just tried the "Download" option from the 3-dot menu again, I was prompted to save "Download.html". I then repeated the exact same operation, and was prompted to save "4" (it is episode #4). If I wait for the download & rename the file "4" to "4.mkv", it will work - but I am most interested now in figuring out why it prompts to save the HTML file sometimes & prevents the download, and more importantly, how to fix the "Download To" function. I don't think it's relevant, but I've also never figured out how to remove all of the extra devices .. or why it's collected over 1000 in the first place Edited Monday at 12:29 PM by sundevil67
