lightsout 144 Posted January 8, 2020 Share Posted January 8, 2020 I can share a profile later at my PC. I used to convert them to h264 then h265. I use nvenc because I have an Nvidia GPU. But you can of course just do them in software. I now have mcebuddy to convert them automatically after the commercials are stripped out. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
wangbo 6 Posted January 9, 2020 Share Posted January 9, 2020 For me it is mostly to consolidate and standardize my files as depending on source of the recordings some are .mpg, some are.mp4, a large number are.ts and the majority and my personal preference are .mkv plus in the past roku accepted one standard but wouldn't play others and sony tv something else would play certain ones but would not playy .mkv (i got rid of that tv for that reason among so many others including channel guide support after they had thier big fight with thier supplier which they never updated to a different provider in the software) I use Linux so I use Openshot to strip the commercials and edit therm out and it save in one format then use handbrake to convert to another. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

lightsout 144 Posted January 9, 2020 Share Posted January 9, 2020 Here's what I use, one is to be used with an nvidia GPU and the other is to be used in software. Basically you can change the encoder to whatever you want, and then adjust the quality setting to your liking as far as size output vs. quality. My spectrum cable is not the greatest PQ, at these settings I can't really tell a difference. FYI I am using 265, which will be hard on a CPU to do the encoding. x/h264 should be fine as well. You'll just have to adjust the quality setting. Also when you go between gpu and cpu encoding, for instance nvenc h265 vs x265, the quality number does not line up. Took me a while to figure this out. So for instance "25" will give you very different results between the two. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
