Ombi, PlexRequest & Alternatives

Hey everyone,

I have been wondering how most of you handle your media requests (if you even accept user input).

Currently I host my server for a couple different family members and some friends.

I have tried a discord channel for everyone to put requests in.

I thought that would be simple and sufficient enough.

After only a few requests I noticed it was a little to simplistic since double titles can come up, so I would need release year if they even know it, or actors in it etc.

Looking at plexrequests (but hey, I'm not using plex so....) first, I discovered Ombi recently.

This removes some of the issues since they pick the movie themselves, and everything already available in emby is shown (so no double requests).

Also issues can be reported if you set it up.

Biggest problem I found is getting support, it's pretty hard to get.

This goes for issues and for setting up (though it's not crazy hard to set-up, if you can't work it out yourself it might be troublesome).

I noticed there are some alternatives, though they are hard to find and that is what I am interested in.

What do most emby users go with? How does it work? Does it fit all your needs or is something missing?

I looked in to Ombi, but that would just be another thing I had to maintain.

I only share with a few users... so now they just text me when they want something.

OMBI is good and Jamie, who wrote and supports OMBI, does most of his support via his Discord.

Website here.

Tell him I sent you :D

True enough, that's how I started out too, but since I don't want to get messages about every little thing I thought about making a group and setting it to silent.

However in the end I went with discord (seperate channel for it) since I can turn sound for it off and it stays off permanently.

And I had a real issue with people not stating years for the movies they requested, which makes picking the correct one a lot harder.

May go back to doing it that way if I don't find anything I like.

Ah, guess that's why I have had issues getting support, didn't know they had discord for it lol :D

Should make things a lot easier.

I may look at Ombi again.  I've added some new users recently, so I'm getting requests.  I don't know if anyone would use it though.

I just share with my family and since we have so many iPhones I have a running shared iCloud note that everyone can modify.

The other, more tech-savvy ways my family struggle to access much less actually use.

My problem is becoming that people will text me to request things when it's already on the server.

Does Ombi also categorize everything that's already there?

Of course my concern is that if I can't get users to search for something before asking me for it.... I won't be able to get them to use a different application either.

Yes Ombi allows you to link your Emby server and retrieve media already downloaded.
In addition, you can automatically import Emby users and their passwords in a very simple way.
You also have the option to manually accept requests, or to make a voting system or to always accept them.

I recommend you Ombi it is very good for requests.

I think you might be surprised. They probably don’t check before texting you first because they aren’t sitting down at that moment to watch content when they realize they might want something. (Or they are in the middle of some other movie or show and don’t want to stop it to check Emby first). So rather than forget about it they just fire the text off. However if you condition them to instead use Ombi they can have that on their phones and when they realize they want something they pull Ombi up and fire off the request. It doesn’t matter if they are watching something else on Emby or what they are doing because it is separate. Then If someone else has already requested it they can see that it is already requested, and if it’s Already in Emby it shows that too.

I read the bold as "herd cats."

But I might give it a shot.

Hehe, for more reasons than one I tend to steer friends and family away from apple, though I do let them know it's personal preference and the reasons why.

So unfortunately that's no solution for me since only one of my brothers uses Iphone, and a sister in law.

Most of my family however simply stick to any type of android phone.

However after getting some support Ombi seems to run "okay". It's not perfect, but during the support he mentioned many of the things that I noted would be in the new V4 version (even added one that wasn't on the list before).

For now though my family has been using it and it seems to work pretty good as long as I don't make a mistake when accepting a request.

It's one of the things that will change in the new version.

+1 for Ombi, support is pretty good from my experience.  Discord channel is the way to go but he replies pretty good to tickets

Hmm. I've never heard of Ombi before. Currently I don't get many, but I do get some, requests. I use nzb360 on my phone to honor such requests. Does Ombi run locally and does it work with Sonarr, Radarr and nzbGet or just with the Emby LiveTV DVR to schedule a recording, or both?

Anyone?

All of the above.
