Starlionblue 80
Some media files have this weird quirk on Roku. I can pause and unpause, but if I fast forward or reverse, then hit play, the title always goes back to the start and starts playing from there. Here's media info for a couple of them. Any ideas? Solution speechles 1912 Posted December 15, 2019 Solution Share Posted December 15, 2019 (edited) It is the MKV header likely. The Roku is very strict about headers and when seeking it will move transport back to the start if it cannot determine length. It might be a compressed header. The Roku can only read partials of these. You can fix this with MKVToolNix GUI. Simply drag your file onto the top left pane of the app. Then just click "start remux" and let it go. After a few seconds it will give you back a corrected MKV file with a fixed header. This file should allow you to play (and seek) on the Roku. The other media players read the bitstream rather than the header to tell length. The Roku is a special creature. It depends on the header for everything. Starlionblue 80
That did the trick! Thanks!
speechles 1912
It was likely caused by the ripping software. Some software when you cut commerials out or those FBI warnings at the front, etc. When those are removed they do a poor job of fixing the header for that fact. You can sometimes tell which software was used to encode in the header itself. You can tell if it has those defects by the software used. Sometimes you cannot. But when you can make a note of which encoding software it was and then avoid those releases in the future that make use of that software (that group will alway use the same software avoid that group) if you downloaded them, or change your encoding software if this is on your end. The latest handbrake will create these kind of videos for Roku. The handbrake people are supposed to be fixing it.
