Only happens on the user that doesn't has administration permissions, on my user which has admin rights I can properly play them files.

Emby server 4.3.0.30 running on a QNAP NAS 453 pro with 8gb ram and firmware 4.4.1.1117

Client is running on a computer with the emby web.

Happened on the 4.3.0.26 too.

i enabled debugging, logged in as the user having this issue to recreate it, triggered it, logged off, and logged back in with my account which has admin permissions so i could take the embyserver.txt log file:

I've created many new users and i've recreated the same Libraries over and over with different format, Movies, TV Shows, and same thing always happens, the only time it works is when I create a user with admin rights and access to all Libraries.

 

These folders the libraries are pointing at are stored in one of the local volumes of the NAS, not a usb drive or anything.

After further testing, i've narrowed the bug to be around the library access permissions, not the admin rights, if i create a user and give full acces by ticking "Enable access to all libraries" under the Access tab this user can access the library i wanted it too, but also the other ones, this is how the interface looks:





If i get into a show:




I see Next Up, and below it all them seasons, I must say that when it works, with all them thumbnails, metadata, background and stuff it looks so beautiful this app you lads made, and you made me so happy because one of the reasons I bought the NAS was to stream content to my family at their homes, then QNAP decided to nerf the codex pack and not be able to transcode anything with dts acc audio codecs, which are 100% of .mkv's on the internet nowdays so when i found this app i was literally ecstatic

 

Now notice that when i restrict the access to only the Library containing The Expanse and The Mandalorian i stop seeing the green circle that indicates how many episodes are in each:




And if I get inside the same show:



I don't see the Next Up nor the seasons below it, i just see the Cast & Crew and if I clic the "Play All" button it prompts the error "Playback Error No compatible streams are currently available."

i recorded a clip for you to see both questions step by step for yourself, first i show how i open the vidio and clic play with the console open, then i logg off and login with my account to enter the config where i show the profile config of the user and then the access on each library.

it was set as hidden for it to not show on my channel, you just had to watch it on youtube, it wasnt allowing to be viewed out of youtube, now it works anywhere, if you look at the vidio you'll also see the profile configuration for that account, maybe i doing something wrong there?

Ok the problem is you can't do the Scifi library that uses sub-folders of another library. Well, you sort of can, so long as you make all library options between the two identical, which clearly is not what you want.  But otherwise you end up with two sets of library options fighting with each other.

 

What i would suggest instead is deleting the sci-fi library, granting access to the TV library, and then using the allow by tags feature to only allow access to those two series.

i see, not quite intuitive, i dont know where this allow by tag feature is though, so what i did was take the Sci Fi folder out of the TV folder and send it one level up, directly below root, it did solve the issue but its gonna be cumbersome in the future and i'm gonna have to have all content split by folders under root :S

im gonna look if by typing "The Expanse" and "The Mandalorian" its enuf, because i guess these tags are extracted from the metadata of each archive in the library...

You need to enter it in the user's parental controls configuration, and then also use the metadata editor to add the tag to the mandalorian series.

i'm gonna be using separate folders, its cumbersome but less cumbersome than having to add tags in specific users and folders/tv shows and also using tags i can't get the proper thumbnail to show, just the ones for the general library.

you see, i use emby for my mother who is 60+ and for my granpda who is 90+, if the old man is looking for a western and all he sees are spaceship something might fry up in his brain xD but knowing that this tag feature is there it might come handy sometime

so yeah, separate folders under root it is, nothing to worry much about im just gonna have to keep that in mind when redesigning my tree structure.
