Amazon FireTV 4k won't play regular stereo...stuck in DD+

It's always something...the new FireTV 4k just won't play regular stereo. It plays DD+ but with only 2 channels so my AVR can't use Dolby Pro Logic II Music or Movie Mode. The AVR disables it when DD+ is present.

Left: Sound

Right: Sound

Center: no

Subwoofer: no

LS: no

RS: no

There are plenty of stereo sources so this is a big deal. Dolby Pro Logic II was pretty natural sounding.

I imagine there is an audio setting in the Fire itself that is governing this.  It is probably set to always output DD.

I tried those...they have no effect. It's an annoying bug that has persisted since 2017.

I doubt it is a bug.  More than likely it is by design - outputting a superior format if the target accepts it.  It could be the TV too...

It gets plug into the AVR first....the AVR outputs to the Display. I found a thread about this issue on the Amazon forum. The Roku works fine though, you get PCM 2-ch stereo.

So I got it working last night, I chose "Always Dolby Digital" (the non-plus version) and suddenly the AVR played PCM stereo with Dolby PLII Music.....good to have full surround back again.

Maybe Stereo and Dolby Digital are mislabeled.

Now that is odd.  What is the name of that option you switched?

I was just going to mention that the fire TV has new sound options, and you can now use home theater mode with your perpetual echo devices to utilize surround sound.

It's kind of cool and I set it up myself earlier this week.
