ryzilla 11
Hey Guys Im very tempted to get one of these bad boys and was after some advice and users experience with them, im wanted to get away from my big desktop for all my media. at home i run 3 AppleTV 4K to do all my media, and this would be a nice addition. I will throw in a NVMe M.2 as well How does streaming and trans-coding go performance wise? and any other words of wisdom TIA! FrostByte 5049
I have the next processor down, but still from everything I've read even with that model if you're transcoding high bitrate 4K to 4K (for maybe burning in PGS subs, etc) then you might want to look elsewhere. For everything else (including 4K to 1080p) then it isn't bad from my experience. When transcoding 4K to 4K it's like it sends you a small chunk, transcodes the next chunk while you wait, and then sends that. Even Synology's website says the max when transcoding 4K is to 1080p Take a look at this link. The DS918+ is group 1. It mostly references Synology's own video player, but it also mentions third party transcoding plug-ins like va-api which Emby uses. https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/Multimedia/Can_my_Synology_NAS_transcode_4K_videos_for_my_device However, my experience overall is very good because none of my 4K needs transcoding and Direct Plays so my experience has been great. When I do transcode 4K to 1080p it isn't bad either. Edited November 29, 2019 by FrostByte
