iPhone upload pics date stamps

I am happy to see this feature finally available on iOS

I know there are some issues related to a library that gets created after this functionality was enabled and I am looking forward to fixes.

One issue that I an unclear about.

When files were uploaded from say iPhone I see all dates on them been reset to current date.

I think it'd be much better to keep original dates or have it configurable.

@@Like is it possible and being considered ?

Thx

I am not even sure if it uploads pic at all.

Definitely worked on initial feature enabling in settings and made lots of pics uploaded.

But then as more photos taken on iPhone I see nothing added at all!

Wonder how to test it ?

You just need to give it a little time and be patient.

How much patient?  Is 2-3 hours of waiting good enough ?

Seems to happen overnight for me. But, my uploaded photos all have the correct date on them

Interesting, I see all dates as Nov 25

And @@Luke said they did not design for it...

How come ?

I don't see even year when looking at pics via library, what you see, must be differences Windows vs Ubuntu.

In general my case and expectations are a bit different.

Say you want to back up pics from iPhone but don't care much about browsing library.

Then when I actually look in the folder where files were uploaded by Emby I see only modified date, the same for all files.

ok but you can see it’s working as you hope in Windows?

Yes

I think you see years because of unintended results of OS + emby coordinations

I’d expect that via library all photos’ meta data should be available, date, place, maybe GPS coordinates etc. I will let @@Luke fill in details what’s possible.

I was referring to the actual date stamp, e.g. modified date on file system (in the folder) should be preserved after upload.

You just need to give it a little time and be patient.

I don't see any subsequent pics being upload at all.

I run Emby on Ubuntu 16.04 and iPhone XS.

Was this combo tested ?

It seems that Windows vs Ubuntu show lots of differences.

Willing to help troubleshoot the problem.  How to test this @@Luke?

I'm on Win10 and Emby beta (4.4.0.1) and see the same issue as @ chudak with Modified Date and Created Date in that on my drive the files show the date the file was uploaded to Emby. However, the Date Taken is correct and this corresponds to Release Date in the Emby Server. So if I want to sort to see the most recent first then I select Release Date>Descending.

I'm also having the same very long delays as @@chudak with uploading new photos and trying to sort out how to force it.

@ chudak sorry, I had re-typed a last part of my post a couple of times and apparently inadvertently deleted the final comments before posting...try the below in the app. Arguably neither is a long term solution but for me it forces an upload so I know my photos are backed up.

Test 1

  1. Select Settings>Camera Upload
  2. Check or Uncheck (depending on current state" "Upload on on Wifi"
  3. Go back to the main Settings (I use the arrow next to Camera Upload)
  4. Select Camera Upload again
  5. Check or Uncheck "Upload on on Wifi"
  6. Go back to any other menu

Not sure step 6 is necessary in my case but it's my current test. Also, does not seem to force the upload by changing the Wifi check box state just once. After all that the photo(s) upload shortly (several seconds to a couple of minutes). As long as I leave the app open on my device new photos will upload. If I shut down the app then when I re-open it I must do the above dance again.

I edited this to remove my Test 2 scenario because it seems very unreliable. In my haste to find a solution I may have tried multiple things, including Test 1, so my results may have been from that alone.

Test 2

  1. Settings>Manage Emby Server>More>Device>Camera Upload>select Save (no changes necessary)

The photo(s) usually upload after several seconds to a couple of minutes. Same as above, as long as I leave the app open on my device new photos will uplaod. If I shut down the app then I must do the above dance again. This method seems to take longer to force the upload

I will give it a try, thx !

But even it helps. the upload feature still needs more work and love
