When trying to play my copy of Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity on my xbox via theater for xbox V1.1.273.70 the video plays just fine but there is no audio.

The file plays fine including audio on Emby for android, the web app on chrome (both mobile and desktop), and Externally via VLC.

It also fails to convert through emby simply displaying 'Failed' in the conversion queue with no other errors.

attached is a zip with my log files:

- I shutdown the server, then cleared the logs folder

- Started the server

- Connected with my xbox and attempted to play the media

- stopped that playback

- Connected with chrome on the server machine and played the media

- then I stoppped that and tried to convert the media using the settings 'original media folder, next to original files' 'TV' and 'Original quality'

from there I zip'd everything in the logs folder.

heres the media info as displayed by emby:

Same thing here.  Video plays, but no audio.  However, when I remuxed it into an mkv container I got sound.

mediainfo for original

and remuxed using mkvtoolnix

Ahh, good catch.  The bitrate of the new one is the same as the nominal bitrate of the original, but it doesn't report it as variable anymore.  Should be the exact same audio file though because it was just a remux.

Probably a header error.

Could be, I'll see if I can find an mp4 remuxer

--or just try ffmpeg I guess

Another test

command used:

ffmpeg -i Jeff_Dunham_spark_of_insanity.mp4 -acodec copy -vcodec copy newvideo.mp4

https://pastebin.com/rEmbirmU

So, should just be another container swap, but using mp4 like the original this time.  The newvideo.mp4 says it's constant bitrate also just like when I remuxed it to mkv

The newvideo played just fine on my XB1X.  So that might suggest that it was a bad header in the original like @Doofus mentioned (audio is actually constant and not variable bitrate)

So I should just use ffmpeg myself and repack this one for now?

How come embys convert feature fails?

Just run it through mkvtoolnix. Matroska is better than crappy mp4, anyway.
