As far as I know, truehd audio is not supported over optical connection and that log is an android mobile log. How are your devices connected?

As far as I know, truehd audio is not supported over optical connection and that log is an android mobile log. How are your devices connected?

but the problem appears in trueHD, dolby digital and the other options.

maybe i got the wrong log, i'm using the andrid tv app from the app store. how can i get the emby tv app log?, i'm not seing it in the server.

conencted in wich manner?, i don't know what you mean, sorry.

update:

i checkeed and indeed none of the logs is from the TV, so i missread the trancoding problem.

but still i'm only getting 2.0 PCM from any source in emby app.

There is a problem with DTS-HD MA Core passthrough with the Sony Bravia TVs. At least for that specific model that you have. Please, see: https://github.com/CiNcH83/bravia_atv2/issues/57. You can also google this and there are some discussions about it at least in the Sony's communities.

I suggest that you get a Nvidia Shield and use your TV only as a "monitor". That way, you get also the lossless sound formats to your receiver that you cannot get over an optical or an ARC connection. Of course, you need a receiver that supports them and also has HDMI inputs & output. With that configuration you also get the "auto refresh rate change" feature. That is, the Sony does not support it either.

so is a problem with the TV and the apps? because the TV outputs dolby digital and others fine from the optical connection to my receiver when using the DLNA or the tv player from an external HDD.

btw my receiver is a Yamaha RX-V465 so no ARC :(

TV is the problem. Dolby digital is different than DTS-HD MA.

Does your receiver have HDMI inputs and outputs? If yes, having no ARC should not matter if you purchase an external media streamer like Nvidia Shield.

but why i don't get any, DTS, DD whit emby but i get them when playing directly from the TV via external HDD.

and yes my receiver have many inputs, but for now i don't want to get an external device (they are expensive where i live) if the TV has the support (using direct play, Youtube and other apps)

Thanks

You gave us a TrueHD example which is not supported over optical. @

If you can provide other examples, then we'll be happy to comment on them. Thanks.

ARC and optical only support 5.1 core audio. AC3/Dolby 5.1 384Kb/s, and dts 5.1. Some devices have licencing to pull the core audio from greater sources like TrueHD and DTS-HD, but most don't. Can you play those audio tracks without the server transcoding it?

the same file I quote have the Dolby Digital - AC3:

Audio Title English Dolby Digital 5.1

Language English

Codec AC3

Layout 5.1

Channels 6 ch

Bitrate 640 kbps

Sample rate 48,000 Hz

Default No

but I still get only PCM 2.0 from the ember app.

if I play the same movie from a Hard Drive connected to the TV with that audio selected the TV outputs 5.1 DD

I know now that optical doesn't support true hd nor dts, but still the audio tracks that its supported are failing with the embryo app.

Regards, and thanks for the answers.

I was only able to play the Dolby Digital track via DLNA or Hard Disk connected to the TV, but even that track didn't play on emby.

and with the other tracks emby just send PCM 2.0.

Based on your description, your TV is reporting support for only stereo audio.

How do you have the audio option in the TV itself set?

Optical doesn't support 640Kb/s, only 384 and lower.

if that is true, the TV is doing transcoding of the audio when playing directly from an extrenal disk? because i get that audio to play fine in that way. :(

If those are the only options, then the system seems to only think it can handle PCM.

When you play something directly with your TV (or via DLNA) you aren't using the Android system so capabilities could be different.

Find a movie that has AC3 5.1 384Kb/s, and test playing that. We need a baseline. But optical doesn't have enough bandwidth for 5.1 640Kb/s.

of all my movies i couldn't find a 5.1 that have less than 640kb/s, only the stereo ones are 360kb/s and less.

I think the max for optical is 640kb/s...

But, the problem is probably the optical connection as that doesn't have any way to report what it does support.  So, to the app, I believe it looks like only stereo is supported (just like the settings seem to indicate).  So we are mixing it down.

Probably the only way to make this particular situation (no external device and only optical connection) work is with some sort of "force" option in the app - which brings with it its own problems (mostly support issues for us).  We'll have to consider...

yes i was hoping to find some way to force the output. so for now i just have to wait.

if i use an external box like the nvidia shield i can pass through the receiver because it don't have 4k support.

and i can't use HDMI because there is no support for ARC in my receiver.

my options are to just plug an external drive to the TV, or use DLNA. :(

The receiver doesn't necessarily have to know it is ARC.

Can't you just Hook the ARC channel to your receiver (on any input) and then just use that input on the receiver to hear the sound?
