I recently renewed my anti-virus software and the next day I lost connection with my Emby server on my computer. I thought it might be the firewall so I deactivated both the Avast! firewall as well as Windows 10 firewall, but I still can't connect. Any suggestions. I had the same issue on my old computer running Windows 7 so I just bought a new computer with Windows 10 install and it has be working great for 6 months.

Windows may have changed your network type from private to public. That would throw a huge wrench into things. First check if that occured and that it calls your home connection a private network.

Then you said you checked firewall rules and disabled the windows firewall.

The Roku may be connecting to your old IP on the router. It may not know the new IP address your Emby server is using. That Roku may not have ever used Emby connect so it cannot find your IP address automaticallty for your Emby server. Especially if you have never used Emby connect at all and always do this using manual connection. You just need to start the Emby Roku app and wait for it fail. It will land on the select server screen. Now tell it "Add server" on the selection. This should prompt you for your ip/host and port. After you do that it should work.

If that still doesn't work. And says unable to connect then it is the router. You may have to unplug it. Wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in. Now repeat all the steps above. This will solve it.

You can also try deleting all Emby Roku apps from your device. You must delete all as the Registry needs to see every app using that developer ID is not on the device. Now restart the Roku. You must restart it for it to refresh the cache and wipe the registry. Now when the Roku boots back up add back your Emby Roku apps. Now when you start them it will prompt as if you are brand new to the app. This should fix it if the app has stashed your credentials incorrectly and you get invalid username/password errors endlessly.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I am having extreme difficulty connecting to my Emby account and the only thing I can think of is if you could completely delete my account and let me start over new. Now when I try to make any connection even on line in Windows I can't seem to get anywhere. I really love this program when it works. I use to use Plex but couldn't get it to work with my Roku devices correctly, everything was in SD mode regardless of the file type or quality. So I switched to Emby and was very, very pleased until Win 7 started losing contact with my Roku so I bought a new Win 10 system in May and it has worked perfectly until two weeks ago and now I'm having the same issues I had with Win 7. I realize it could be an error on my part somewhere but I can't seem to solve it.

Thank you for your assistance it this matter I am 75 years old and not as sharp as I once may have been.

Hi.  We don't really have complete control of your "account" as it is your server.

One thing to check with your Windows setup is to be sure that a Windows update didn't do something like mark your local network as "Public" as this would pretty much make it impossible for you to connect to it from any other machine.

Can you let us know if any of the great info speechles provided is of help?

If not you can you supply us some basic information to help us progress with what could be wrong.

Is your Emby server running in your home environment?

Is the Roku device in your home environment on the same LAN as your server?

Is either using WIFI or both hardwired with an Ethernet cable?

Are you using Emby connect? If you don't know what this is don't worry just say you don't know what it is.

Can you connect to your Emby server from another computer, phone or tablet on your network?

so I bought a new Win 10 system in May and it has worked perfectly until two weeks ago

If it is Windows10 it should be easy to fix. It might be as easy as the Emby Server IP has changed. Then the Roku would "forget" your server and you would need to use "Add Server" again with the correct IP address. It might also be your Windows Firewall has became active again. The windows updates do this. The last one 2 weeks ago did. It did it to my Windows 10 Home Install. I had to disable the windows firewall again. It also re-enabled windows alerts which I had disabled. So had to disable those again. It is not Emby causing you these issues. It is Microsoft Windows Updates doing this to you.

You should be able to use an windows explorer window (file browser window) and choose "This PC" from the tab on the left side. Now click on the "Network" selection tab and you should see the Roku. If you do not see the Roku on this tab it is either the Windows Firewall, the "Public" IP issue listed above, or you simply need to turn off, wait 10 seconds, turn back on your router. Let them get new IP addresses. It is one of those 3 if you do NOT see the Roku listed in network devices.

If the Roku is listed in network device but still does not work the IP address has changed. If you are using Emby Connect this should just work, but if you use Manual and Add Server this has to be done everytime the IP changes.

It might also be related to any internet security programs you run. Any watch dog apps that prevent malware or spurious connections. If you work from top to bottom on what I mention above you should be able to find the issue. If this happened with the most recent Windows Update most assuredly it is the Windows Firewall turned back on or removed the Emby Server exemption.
