a couple of days ago i installed emby and added tv series and movies. i must of screwed something up cause i click movies under my media and there is nothing there, if i click tv series the series are listed but no images. pretty sure whatever i messed up has to do with trying to keep emby from downloading any files to various media folders.  could really use some help figuring out what i messed up and or didn't set right. running kubuntu 19.10 64 bit. thanks

Hi, what does your movie folder structure look like? How did you setup the movie library in emby library setup?

what does your movie folder structure look like?

/home/gravedigger/Graves/Movies

and i have full permission. creating the folder and subfolders to move my drives / partition mount points is one of the first things i do. then i go through and take permissions.

movies is just loose files, movies without squeals. here's the libraries i want to setup.

home/gravedigger/Graves/Television/TV Series - each series has it's main folder ans sub-folders for the seasons.

home/gravedigger/Graves/Television/TV Series/Last Episode - loose episodes for all the shows i do not collect, contains the last aired episode of a show.

home/gravedigger/Graves/Television/TV Series - loose episodes that haven't been watched yet

home/gravedigger/Graves/Movies - loose movies that do not have squeals

home/gravedigger/Graves/Movie Series - contains sub-folders for movies with one or more squeals

i hope that helps.

Have you compared  your naming to our supported naming conventions for TV and Movie libraries?

i'm not changing the naming. this setup works perfectly for plex so emby shouldn't have any issue with it either. besides for the tv series if that were the issue the emby server wouldn't show my series at all. all i'm missing with the tv series are the thumbnails as seen in image in the first post. plus there is the fact that i had emby up and running fine awhile back with the same naming convention, just different linux username and instead of Graves as the parent mounts folder it was My Drives. i saw all the images just fine. i only stopped using emby when the forum started having issues letting me login. i finally asked for and got you guys to fix the login issue the other day. i'm sure it's some simple setting i screwed up and not seeing.

correction actually i dropped emby in the first place cause once i created my account back then i could never login to the forum, and when i emailed to get it fixed no one responded. this time you guys fixed it within a couple of days when i emailed the adin, which i do appreciate.

you're pretty much on your own then.  there are plenty of people on here that use both w/o issue because they figured out the intersect of what naming convention works for both.  if you're unwilling, move along.

Loose movies generally will work just fine, but loose TV will not. It's something we'd like to accommodate in the future, but we're not quite there yet.

actually i lied, kinda. under plex it's:

Last Night's setup under other videos

Movie Series setup under movies

Movies setup under movies

TV Series setup under tv shows

TV Specials setup under other videos

if i had added Last Episode to plex it would be under other videos cause if i add that folder as tv shows it will name the show without the episode number. adding it as other videos i see the show name and episode info.

I mean that is all well and good, but it sounds like what you want to do is leave everything the way it is, despite it not working well in emby and have someone from here troubleshoot a setup that is outside the recommended setup to see why it doesn't work and then ask for changes to be made in emby to accommodate your directory structure to work again. Not trying to be a jerk, just want to see if i understand this correctly.

again just amazing you skipped entire sections of my post again. i said i had emby up and running before with the structure i have now, so the naming convention isn't the issue. i'm sure it's some simple little setting that i checked / unchecked that's causing the problem.

Are you still having an issue?

yes the issue is still there. i really don't mean to be a pain, but as far as i'm concerned one should not have to change their folder structure to suite any program, but like i said above i've used this folder structure with emby in the past without issue.

sure here you go.

Well outgoing http communications are failing, at least in this log example. That is probably why you did not get any movie images. Most likely you  have something on the  machine that is blocking Emby Server from making these requests, such as security software, firewall, or vpn.

ok, only security software is a firewall and emby is allowed in both directions on the suggested port.  as for vpn only in the browser which i've disabled several times to see if it would make any difference and it never does.
