Unable to reinstall plug-ins

this morning after adding 6 new movies to my server (for a total of 336 movies) I opened mb3 on my xbox 360 as I went into the movie category I was kicked out of mb3 and staring at wmc home screen. After uninstalling and reinstalling both mb3 server and mb classic (to the most current versions, and did restart/reboot), I found that I am unable to reinstall the subdued theme. after looking in the configurator and only finding a remove button, I found that the plug-in catalog was moved into mb classic and when I attempt to open anything within the plug-in catalog all I get is a darken screen and nothing else. I had to power off the xbox 360 just to get out of it. I then attempted the same on the desktop and ended up having to reboot my entire system.  :(  I feel that moving the plug-in installer out of the configurator needs to be rethought.

Since MBC is designed to be run on HTPC machines, often without keyboards, it was really awkward to have to run a special program just to install some plugins and themes.

With the new setup you should theoretically be able to install plugins and themes even from your xbox 360 (not sure if permissions in the RDP session are setup the same tho).

It sounds like you are having some other unusual behavior tho that is the root of your problem.

What version of MB3 and MBC are you running?

After the last update, I am experiencing the same issue.  While I did not reinstall the MB server, I did reinstall MC Classic.  However, I unable to reinstall the Chocolate theme (same behavior described as the OP).

Should have mentioned... The black/dimmed screen happen on the Xbox 360 as well as the desktop hosting MB Classic (I am local admin).

MB Server: 3.0.5271.29451

MB Classic: 3.0.163.0 5-3.2

OS :Windows 8.1 Pro (Update 1) with Media Center

I should have been just a little clearer when I stated that I uninstalled then reinstalled both server and classic after the uninstall I went to the download page for both parts and selected official releases rather then betas.  as for version numbers that is whatever the site considered current releases about 2 hours before I posted my original message.

and as for having a HTPC my setup is there yet but starting to build a new PC to tuck away in some wasted space that I uncovered to house the new PC, Cable/DSL Router, 24 port switch, and NAS.  The PC is to pull double duty as media server and survelince hub.  I intend on using remote desktop connection to keep up to date without the need of having an extra monitor or mouse.

I just uninstalled MB Classic, deleted all MediaBrowser-Classic files (located in C:\ProgramData, C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Classic) and reinstalled with a setup file from last fall.  While it pulled the same version of the installation files, this time it works.  Chocolate is right back where it belongs!

Both of you guys must be on low-resolution devices or 4:3 displays.

There is currently a problem with the catalog showing in those scenarios.  I haven't figured out what to do about it yet because I don't what to hamstring the design for a format that is basically gone.

yes my xbox 360 is on a 4:3 tv but why would it also happen on my PC display? it also is 4:3 (viewsonic 15GA, secondary | primary is NEC Multisync A500 )

my previous message indicated I am in middle of a home remodel to include cat5e into the walls and at the end I will be sporting a 70" HDTV with a ROKU 3 in the living room and all the bedrooms will have 36" HDTVs and ROKU 3's

just a thought, I don't see a issue or hamstringing of development if the plug-in catalog could be accessed either by MB Classic (as is currently) and from the configurator (old Style) because it is very doubtful that users would be in both areas at the same time. With the use of a "if exists" statement it can be determined that MB Classic or MB Theater resides on the host system and then plug-in management can be kicked up to the server interface (instead of just telling the user that the plug-in has to be installed thru Classic)

It is happening on both because they are both 4:3 displays.

I didn't follow your last request because you mentioned MBT and none of this relates to that client...

Maybe I spoke wrongly by mentioning MBT.  To clearify what I was saying is why not have plug-in management in both places (the configurator and within MB Classic) it is very doubtful that users will be in both of those places but yet offers the users more ways to handle plug-in management.

The second part of the statement goes on to suggest that within a situation of streaming to a XBOX 360 or similar platform without capability to house the player.  the player resides on the same host system as the server,  so within that scenario a "if exists" can be used to verify that player and server are on the same PC then plug-in management can be handled within the server.

The reason not to duplicate the functionality is that, eventually, the configurator will go away entirely.  It is not intuitive to have to run a separate application to configure the one you are using.
