You Can Now Change The Invocation Name To Whatever You Want

Hey Guys!

I just thought I would post a helpful tip that worked for me.  I as well as some others had trouble getting emby to respond with both the "emby home" and "emby" invocation names.

Just recently amazon updated the routines functionality be able to start a skill using routines.  Being as how I only use the skill when I know what movie I want and just want to shout it out this worked well for me.

Simply go in to the routines section of the app and start a new voice triggered routine.  For me I made my invocation "Open The Server".  Then choose the emby skill to open with that invocation.

Now If I have two kids hanging off me I can just say "Alexa open the server".  She responds with "what would you like?" ..... "Play Lego movie" ..... "Lego Movie is now playing"

Hope this helps anyone who wanted to use their own custom invocation name.

Say What!?

I've been trying for days to get past loading Emby and actually playing something with voice commands to Alexa.

Going to have to check this out!

I tried this, but it says movie is now playing and then is "sends it to chrome", it doesn't play on the echo show for me. It starts it in my web-browser on pc.

Has anyone actually been able to pull up their server on the echo show and have it play content to the echo show, I think this is the goal of what folks would prefer to be able to accomplish.

Scott, when you stated that Alexa said, "Lego Movie is now playing", where was it playing to? Was it actually playing on the show or another device?

It'd be great to have the skill on the show and be able to interact with it, similar to the apps and web versions, and be able to view content from the server on the echo show.

No. The developer would have to add that integration. For example, I can say to add things to the shopping list and they get added to my AnyList app, but that’s because it’s linked to my Alexa account behind the scenes.

If you want to be able to watch content on your echo show just open the silk or firefox browser and go to app.emby.media then save it as a bookmark.
