Xioami Mi Box S and AAC 5.1

Hi guys,

Had a quick look around on these forums, and there's plenty of folks with issues regarding the Mi Box... however, I've got it connected to my 4K HDR tv, passing DD and DTS through to my Yamaha soundbar (that handles True-HD etc) and everything works perfectly... apart from AAC 5.1, which simply gets passed through as stereo. On the Roku Streaming Stick, there's an option in Emby to convert multichannel AAC to DD and this works perfectly, am I missing something on the Mi Box/Android TV app?

I prefer the Mi Box to the Roku, and the refresh rate switching is working perfectly on the Mi (and it might be in my head, but the picture seems more natural, especially motion, thought the Mi. And yes, I have all motion smoothing turned OFF!)

Thanks in advance guys.

J

We'd need to look at specifics from an example but my bet is that your TV is accepting and downmixing the 5.1 signal.

OK thanks.... there's no way for me to prevent/alter that... I set the TV to output audio to the soundbar via HDMI as Bitstream, if I set it to PCM then everything is stereo. The Roku has the 'Convert AAC to DD' option which works perfectly but Emby for Android TV doesn't have it (yet, I assume).

Other than selecting a different audio track, no way at this time.  I'd only want to add that option if there was a large need for it.  This is the first time it has come up on this platform.

I would like to request an option for the ATV app to enable conversion from AAC5.1 to DD5.1 - it would be particularly helpful for Sonos users where the soundbar connects via Optical cable, DD5.1 plays fine but AAC5.1 plays as stereo.

i think, converting 5.1 DTS to 5.1 AC3 might also be usefull.

I've seen TVs and soundbars supporting AC3 surround but not DTS (or AAC) surround.

The app will already do that in that case.

But the server does the work, correct? Not the player/app.

Yes but the "work" is almost trivial.
