Emby for Roku, can't login

When I fire up the roku and get emby started it keeps asking for a password, but I see no way to actually enter a password!

I also have an account set up on the server for my wife which has no password, yet the roku/emby asks for her non existent password.

So, it make's emby completely unusable. Is this a bug in the roku version of emby? I'm sure that it is finding my server just fine because it displays mine and my wife's accounts along with the avatars.

I have the latest versions of software for both roku and emby app.

I am not using emby connect (see no reason to).

I am using an older version of the server (3.0.6) because this seems to be the last version that worked correctly, i.e. it uses my actor images that I have maintained for years, it uses my studio and genre images, it reads my movie.xml files and boxsets work.

Is the roku app simply not going to work with the older server? that would suck cuz then I'd have to install bland plex just to stream my movies to my tv.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi.  Yes, the problem is the old version of the server.  The Roku app will need a more recent version (4.x I believe).

it reads my movie.xml

The latest version of Emby Server will still do this, with the xml metadata plugin installed.

Those other things you mentioned won't be used by that other server you mentioned either, so why would you use that over a newer version of Emby Server?

boxsets work

The latest version supports boxsets as well, and they can be managed directly in the web interface.

I know that the newer versions will read the xml, I've been down that road, but, once that is done I assume that data is put into a database and the xml files are ignored after that. I tested this by altering the xml file and doing a library scan and the change was not picked up. The older versions would read the xml file during a library scan and changes would show up.

Boxsets, last time I checked, did not work. By this I mean if I put several movies into a folder called "007 [boxset]" they would show up as a boxset, or "collection".

My Images By Name folder, which I had to rename after an "upgrade" worked for a while but further upgrades broke that too, along with my studio and genre images.

So, all the features I loved about Media Browser 1, the things that made it better than the others, don't work in the newer versions. I put a lot of time and effort into getting the metadata and pictures I wanted and I don't want to start over.

I still use metabrowser as my scraper even though that project is kaput. It gives me control, I can choose from several sources for the metadata, posters, backdrops, etc.

So I'll stick with my old version of emby for my computers and install some generic server to stream to the tv, unless I can find an old version of the roku app that will work.

No that's not true about the xml files being ignored after that. It's not any different from the older version you're using.

Happy2Play

I have not issue editing my xml files and Emby seeing the changes, reader is set to xml then nfo in my priority order.

As for LEGACY collections this is true, Emby will not honor these folder structure collections any more.  They will appear in Folder view.

And pretty much all the IGN/metadata folders have become obsolete from a new install perspective.  If you have a older install and upgrade it will still be used until something happens to that database.

Not sure if BNN still works on the newer Roku firmware.

I may try it again. After altering an .xml file I saw no change after a library scan, but maybe I should have waited longer.

There are still the other things. I guess if I don't like an actor image or poster I can use the built in metadata editor and change it.

Still don't like the way it does genres and boxsets (collections) but maybe I can learn to like it.

I very much like the server I'm running now, the way it looks and behaves is perfect.

The roku issue is pretty much moot because that is due to issues on their end. The more I read about roku and how they deal with developers the less I like them (firestick probably would be no better).

For now, I guess I'll forget streaming and just set my windows tablet next to the tv and run an hdmi cable to it and just project the web app.

Thanks!
