Ultra - Sort by Date Played fails if episode(s) deleted

Ultra running Emby beta - both have current software.

I noticed this a while back but only recently realized it's happening on Roku but not on AppleTV (TVOS 13) or the web app (4.3.0.7 beta).

Most times I delete a TV episode after I watch it. Apple TV and the web app still show the related series in the correct Date Played order. To clarify let's say I watch SeriesA/Episode10 then delete, then watch SeriesB/Episode11 and don't delete, then watch SeriesC/Episode05 and delete. On Apple and the web app sorting by Date Played shows:

SeriesC/Episode05 first

SeriesB/Episode11 second

SeriesA/Episode10 third

However, on Roku the sort order for Date Played is:

SeriesB/Episode11 (the one I didn't delete), then SeriesC and SeriesA appear further down the sort and I'm not certain as to what order they follow. TBH I haven't put a lot of thought into it because I'm focused on the fact they aren't sorted as on Apple and the web app.

Preference is that Roku functions like Apple and the web app. Can you can put that on the "look at one day when there's nothing more important" list?

SeriesC/Episode05 first

SeriesB/Episode11 second

SeriesA/Episode10 third

How is it possible that the ones you DELETED are showing up anywhere...?

How is it possible that the ones you DELETED are showing up anywhere...?

Because there are more Episodes of each Series in the respective folders.

I think he means he's sorting the list of series. Is that correct?

This is correct. Sorry that wasn’t clear from the post title.

I haven’t. That’s at the server level, correct? So wouldn’t cause a different sorting behavior on Roku vs Apple TV and the web app? All the devices access the same server.

@@ebr it’s 9.1.0 build 4919-46. It was happening on previous versions but just didn’t give it much attention because I didn’t realize it behaving differently than Apple and web.

There is a change in the Roku beta to make this correct.  It's possible the Apple TV app is doing it incorrectly but the Roku beta matches the web app exactly.

I don't see how you could be getting a different result in the web app and Roku beta.

Are you sure you had the same users logged in and that both were observed at the same time?

@@ebr sorry for the really long delay, didn't get an email that this post had a response. But, here's what I've found. When I select to Delete an episode, sometimes I go back to the previous screen manually. However, I see that if I stay on the episode screen several seconds I will be automatically put back on the previous screen, which apparently happens when Emby actually deletes the episode. So the two scenarios:

1) I select to Delete and wait several seconds. I'm then automatically put back on the previous screen, I think the Series screen. In this scenario the episode is actually deleted from my server.

2) I select to Delete, then manually go back to the previous screen without waiting on Emby. In this scenario, the Episode is removed from Emby; however, the Episode is not deleted from my server. To be clear, in this scenario Emby stops seeing the Episode but it is still on my server. I hardly ever access the individual Series folders on my server, and assumed if I selected Delete and it was gone from Emby then it was deleted from the server. Emby marks it as deleted and so ignores it, I guess? but because I don't wait for Emby to automatically move me back to the previous screen I'm stopping the actual delete routine.

Still doesn't explain why I was seeing different result between Roku and web app, but it explains why I thought I was seeing correct sorting, sometimes.

When you do the delete, does the spinner come up or anything that indicates the app is doing something?

@@ebr not in either scenario do I see a spinner or any signs Emby is doing anything. Continuing with the same scenario numbering from earlier in this post...

scenario 1) - I select Delete and after a varying amount of time (1-3 seconds) I'm automatically taken back a screen where I very briefly (maybe a second) see the deleted episode thumbnail with a check mark, then it goes away.

scenario 2) - I select Delete and more than less immediately I manually go back a screen where I very briefly (maybe a second) see the deleted episode thumbnail with a check mark, then it goes away. But again, in this case the episode is not deleted from my NAS.

I think you clearly understood when I was typing "server" I meant my physical drive, but I thought it best to now use "NAS".

If the episode disappears from the interface but not your hard drive, this would indicate some sort of problem at the file system level with actually deleting it.  That would need to be investigated with a server log.

@@ebr you're referring to my server (NAS), correct? It's only an issue when I back out of the individual episode screen before Emby automatically puts me back to the series screen.
