Does this look right?

 

My CPU is hitting 90 C and the utilization is about 50%.

 

Playback on my phone is smooth.

Looks like you may have subs enabled. Click on the i, what does it tell you? Or look at your stats.

What do the stats tell you?

AFAIK, the statistics plug-in was deprecated and replaced with playback reporting. I have not used playback reporting yet so I need a little bit of time to sort it out Karma especially not while I'm trying to drive!

One thing I find strange. If using the Android mobile app, which uses mpv, if the server is transcoding it should not do anything with the audio, but it does. All audio is transcoded by the CPU, and mpv will handle any audio. I know we say that audio transcoding is an easy process, but when transcoding the video, the audio transcoding actually costs about 10fps (I was testing and comparing results). That can be significant if transcoding is running at around 30fps. When possible, the server should leave the audio alone. It makes no sense to use resources unnecessarily. This is a good example of that. A weak CPU could actually slow down the GPU because it can't keep up.

I was talking about stats for nerds. That will tell you what's happening.

 

Stats for Nerds on a phone doesn't show much but I'll grab a screen shot and post it.

Looking at the transcode log it is apparent that the nVidia GPU is being used but I'm wondering why ffmpeg is still hitting my CPU as shown in the first post.

 

Should it be?

The bitrate is in settings under playback. If you don't have an option to change the audio, that means you only have one audio track. Try a different video.

I forced a transcode on a 54Mbps hevc file @ 4Mbps. The GPU is definitely engaged but is at 54% in HWMonitor. This seems high but maybe this is where the hack to increase streams come in handy.

The GPU usage is misleading. Even if it said 100% you could probably still add more. It's the same with my CPU. It hits 100% with a few transcodes, but a bunch more can be added.
