Jazzer 2
Hello all I have been trying to put a name (domain) to my public IP because my internet company constantly changes my ip, I have read that with No-ip a dynamic DNS could be established, I have tried it and now in the WAN connection the name appears of the dns followed by the port (80), everything works fine like this if I enter emby through a browser, the problem comes when trying to enter from an app (mobile, emby theater, tv) because when I put the host name (http://domainname) it fails to connect and I can't enter from outside my house, any solution? I proably did something wrong, because I don't know much about this Edited August 22, 2019 by Jazzer
rbjtech 4218
Have you setup DDNS ? Are you running the client on your PC or router for example ? DDNS does not just 'work' - you need a client to keep the public DNS servers updated with your public WAN IP entry for your DNS domain. use 'nslookup <your domain name>' to check to see if it matches your routers WAN IP. Happy2Play 8239
Some isp actually block port 80 to prevent customers from running servers on a residential connection. Have you checked with a site like canyouseeme or yougetsignal to see if the port is open? Or need port forwarding configured in your router. rbjtech 4218
I get a valid public IP back for that dns name - http:\\<that IP> is open on Port 80 - but it is not Emby .. Is something else running on that port ? edit - Ah just noticed - you didn't use nslookup correctly the 'server' part is a public dns server (from your ISP, google etc) - not your ddns domain name. Jazzer 2
Hi all. rbjtech, I looked up in my router and nothing is running on port 80, It is open but pages like canyouseeme can't connect to it. It's strange Happy2Play yeah, the url works fine, that was I said earlier, the point is, when Im outside my home and I want to use my phone to watch movies on emby what do I need to put on Host field? The domain name? (http://domainname) If I do that Emby doesn't recognize that, it tells me: Can't connect to server. That's what Im seeking help for. Solution rbjtech 4218 Posted August 22, 2019 Solution Share Posted August 22, 2019 step 1 - you need to get DDNS working. You have said in PM that the ip address that my(or any) public DNS resolves for embyjazzer.ddns.net is not your 'public' IP. Using googles DNS servers - > embyjazzer.ddns.net. Server: [8.8.8.8] Address: 8.8.8.8 Non-authoritative answer: Name: embyjazzer.ddns.net Address: 34.199.8.144 Unless you fix that - DNS is not going to work on the Public internet. It is also possible that your ISP is using Carrier Grade NAT - which means you cannot host Emby or any other service behind it ...
