Is there anything strange in subtitles ?

I gave my dad a Roku2 and he is playing my stuff over the wan (100Mbps) and he complains all the time about drop outs.  I play the same with no issues on my Roku's.

I thought it would be network glitches causing it and am going to take mine to his house to play the same files that work in my house to prove the roku or network.

But it just dawned on me - he always uses subtitles....

Anything to do wit that ?

I will collect logs of his crash later.

Which Roku 2 model?  As there appear to be 5 versions.

Wired or Wireless?

Its wired to my dad's LAN.

He does a speed test and gets 80-90 Mbps download.

I have him doing a ping /t to see if any dropouts also.

We'd have to look at an example. Thanks.

Actually, I’ve had similar issues with my Fire Stick 4K. A movie would play fine for a while, and randomly start cutting out once in a while. Turned off subtitles, no more issues. The problem you are facing could be related.

Are the subtitles embedded in the video file, or are they external files? My issue seemed to be isolated to subtitles embedded in the video file. You should also ask your dad to try watching without any subtitles and see if the dropouts still occur.

Anyway, I almost never use subtitles, so it isn’t really an issue for me.

I would probably still try to see if he can watch anything without subtitles to see if the dropouts still occur. It’s the easiest way of knowing whether or not the subtitles are to blame.

I have been telling him to turn off subtitles while we are testing.

Shows that had the issues are now working.

But he today reported some new ones that are failing (not sure if he put subs back on - I will report back.

ok - told my dad to stop with the subs, but he still complains about 'Loading.....' and freezing.

i have attached a remux file.

He says on speedtest he has fast downloads (80 ish) and uploads just under 1.

I installed the speedtest docker on my system so remote users can test on their end to my emby system which will be more real world.

As a side note - would be a nice thing to incorporate into the emby web app itself.

first go he sent had fast speeds but 300ms ping and about 300ms jitter.

Another remote user with no issues reports 30 ping and 30ish jitter.

Im going to get all users to run this and report back.

so - is the ping/jitter part of this loading issue, or just loading and never starting ?

High latency could be an issue...

What is your upload speed from your server?

How many people are remote streaming at the time?

only 1 or 2 remote at same time.

remote users hardcoded to max 4

40mbps upload.

speedtest using my system for other users is showing 30+ download so my upload is fine.

The worst of the other users tested is 100 ping's.

Just my dad has 300.
