trusselo 220
Completely new to unraid. just built an unraid server as my raid5 array was full and nobody makes reliable 5TB drives to expand it. So i have an unraid server, thinking about moving emby server, from my windows machine to my unraid machine. Is it possible to use an Radeon 570 with emby docker? Is this possible? I can only find guides for Nvidia. Answered in post 2! Thanks Luke. new question now... Do I even need a gpu for transcoding if i have a ryzen 3600? my previously used processor for emby server on windows was a phenom II 1090T and could not transcode a single x265 10bit stream. Luke 36887
From Emby's standpoint hardware acceleration in docker is only expiremental at this stage. It probably can work, but there will likely be some user setup required with drivers and we don't have all of the answers to that yet.
trusselo 220
ahh cool. from asking at unraid forums found unraid does not want to support GPU drivers. there is an unraid build (fork) with Nvidia drivers but that is supported and maintained by nvidia I just purchased the rx570 for transcoding emby in windows (before i realized my raid5 was full and decided to build an unraid) so new question... do I even need gpu transcoding for docker if I am running a ryzen 3600? my phenom II 1090t could not transcode x265 10bit in realtime, so i purchased the 3600 for my emby windows server. would a 3600 be enough to transcode 3 or 4 streams at once? my phenom could not do 1 worst case scenario i could just passthrough the amd gpu to a windows VM on the unraid server, but I'm trying to do something new/different/learn stuff.
