I'm running 4.2.0.40 currently but the newest version is the current stable of 4.2.1.0 if you created your jail manually.

If you used the plugin interface to create the Emby jail you need to decide if you want to wait for it to be updated and avail yourself of the GUI or venture in to manually handling updates via the CLI.

To update, does the web GUI not work within a FreeBSD jail?  I have not attempted to update my version yet but would like to.

pgk update and pkg upgrade within the jail does not seem to work, are there CLI directions on how to do this somewhere?

Thanks!

I've been running 4.2.1.0 for the past few days without any issues (in an iocage jail manually created and updated)

What he's referring to by GUI is the FreeNAS GUI. There's a plugins section that you can use to install and update Emby, but it's usually many versions behind.

Manual install instructions can be found here:

https://emby.media/freebsd-server.html

This is for new installs, but the process is pretty much the same for an update.

All the latest versions can be found here:

I used those directions to do a manual install in a jail because the plugin as you mention was a but behind in versions.  Those directions specify the beta which I installed but there is now an update to the beta version I would like to upgrade to.

I assume the Emby GUI is not able to update on FreeBSD and that's why we need to go through the CLI within the jail, that's fine.

To do that, I would assume its:

pkg update

pkg upgrade

But that does not work, are you saying to update an existing install I need to just re-run this command?  (I assume dependencies are already there, and do not need to re-run that, looks like pkg update/upgrade takes care of updating those fine)

pkg add -f https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/***NEWVERSION PATH****

Or is there a different command to update verses install?  Will this kill all settings?

Thanks

EDIT: Found this with directions for updating, it is as simple as you made it sound :)

Yup, those instructions still apply and it is that simple.

The only thing I'll add is to not just assume pkg update/upgrade will take care of the dependencies. Every so often a new dependency gets added as new versions come out. So it's good practice to keep tabs on the list that's on the manual install instructions.
