Bottom of screen fade

Hi,

This is difficult to explain but I'll do my best.

I've noticed for awhile now, many programs seem to have a slight fading out effect at the bottom of the screen, I eventually discovered that when you bring up the info screen by pressing the down arrow key and wait for that to disappear, the fading has gone.

It's almost like the fading affect you have in between menus and the video gets stuck there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I will watch few different videos and see can I reproduce it with steps provided, last night I was watching a recording but it was on the beta version of the app and didn't notice any issue.

I think we need to see a picture when it happens because I couldn’t reproduce it with different types of videos mostly with dark scenes so it becomes obvious but nothing all looked ok brought osd many times and all looks good.

I have attached a couple of photos, not sure how easy it is to see it in them but it's there at the bottom of the screen.

In the first image but not the second, correct...?

Can you tell us the exact steps to reproduce that?

Correct yes.

It tends to happen when your playing a playlist and it starts playing the next video in the list.

It also tends to happen when you pause the video and press play again.

I can't say it does it every time consistently, I'm not sure

Pressing the down arrow key to bring up the info screen and waiting for it to disappear as always cleared it though, that I can say.

I haven't been able to reproduce it and cannot see how it could possibly happen (unless it is just a rendering error on the device) but we'll keep trying.

Thanks.

Don't know what else to tell you, it's still doing it on mine.

Thanks

@@Gilgamesh_48 have you seen this happen?

Not at all.

The screens during playback are of equal brightness/sharpness from top to bottom.

Ever since this thread appeared I have been watching for something to show up but nothing has. I have watched shows and movies that are both old encodes and even a few that required transcoding and some of the newest as well. That is the Emby server and the Roku app have been tested in my setup pretty thoroughly and there have been no issues like the one described.

BTW: Thank you for thinking of me in relation to helping to diagnose a problem. It kind of shows that, in spite of my whining, I have some value to Emby's staff. I know they (You) have value for me.

Could it be Roku model specific?

Thanks

I use Ultras and Roku 3s. I kind of doubt it could be model specific BUT stranger things have happened.

I actually would look more for marginal cables and HDMI ports but I only use the software. I don't write it. I also do NOT use wireless or advanced audio or video setups at all.

Mines a Streaming Stick+ (3810EU).

Must be just something VERY specific to my setup then, either that or I'm going mad lol.

Thanks

I have had several problems that it seemed no one could duplicate or fix and most of them actually turned out to be an obscure bug in the software that actually manifested in other ways on most system than it did on mine. Emby, so far, has found and fixed all of those that have been uncovered.

This "may" be one like those.

But it also could be, as you say, some weird obscure problem with your setup. The first thing I would look at is your Roku itself. I have noticed that all "stick" type devices are subject to problems due to their proximity to the back of the TV and to their using wireless connections. But that may be an expense you do not wish to incur. It is just that the Roku is the first place to look. While it is most probably not specific to the model it could be specific to your device itself.

I am very curious what is happening for you. What model number of Roku is this?

When you say bottom fade is missing. Do you mean the one on the detail screen? The one on all the screens other than the Video Player. Do you mean that fade is/isn't going away. Or do you mean the OSD fade itself it uses. These two are completely different effects. The OSD shade is using a stretch-to-fill overlay effect of transparency on an image. The backdrop shade is using a gradient fade effect rather than an opacity trick.

I suspect it is the background shade you mean?

Or do you meant the Video Player OSD shade?

Can you better describe a bit. Thanks. :)

Streaming Stick+ model 3810 interesting.. I have this same model. Let me play with it and throw it against the wall. :)

I still have to run all sorts of tests on this creature and punch it in the face and watch it cry... or play nice and not get punched.

There is a picture of the problem in this thread.  It looks like the OSD background but that background is within a display group and it would be pretty much impossible for the background to still show without the rest of the group also showing so I'm at a loss for what is going on here...

As I've said before, there may be other scenarios that causes this but here's more detail about one of them.

I have a set of videos in a playlist, not a collection. If you start playing the playlist and decide you want to skip this one, you press the down arrow key to bring up the info display, then select the button to skip to the next program, when the next program starts playing, the problem presents it's self.

Thanks to everyone who has looked into this, I do appreciate your time.

Thanks

I've tested that exact scenario and cannot make this happen.

Can you tell us more about exactly what items are in this playlist?
