ChrisJ60 8
So today I updated my Emby Server from 3.5.3 to 4.2. After the update all my collections have vanished! They do not show up in either the WebUI or the iOS and Apple TV apps. If I look at ~/.config/emby-server/data I see a folder called 'collections' and within are my collections: ls -l ~/.config/emby-server/data/collections total 0 drwxr-xr-x 3 serveruser staff 96 22 Mar 2018 Middle Earth [boxset] drwxr-xr-x 4 serveruser staff 128 10 Mar 16:46 Mr Beens [boxset] drwxr-xr-x 3 serveruser staff 96 24 Mar 2018 Star Trek [boxset] drwxr-xr-x 5 serveruser staff 160 27 May 2018 Star Wars [boxset] drwxr-xr-x 4 serveruser staff 128 30 Apr 2018 Without Bethany [boxset] drwxr-xr-x 4 serveruser staff 128 28 Jun 14:08 Without Emrys [boxset] and within each of those folders is an XML file, for example ls -l ~/.config/emby-server/data/collections/Middle\ Earth\ \[boxset\]/ total 8 -rw-r--r-- 1 serveruser staff 1567 16 Mar 22:29 collection.xml How can I get these collections back such that Emby recognises them again? Also, there seems to be a serious bug I the EmbyServer upgrade logic - it should not allow this to happen.
Senna 366
Does the User you are checking with, has access to the Collections library ?
ChrisJ60 8
Yes, they do. I managed to recover them by moving all the files and directories from 'collections' elsewhere, waiting a while and then moving them back. Then the automatic library monitoring kicked in and scanned the files as if they were new and then the collections appeared in the UI and apps. This is really quite strange and not the best upgrade experience if I am honest. Fingers crossed there aren't any other issues lurking...
Luke 36888
I was going to suggest exactly that, so glad to hear you figured it out. In all honesty, more upgrade testing was devoted to 4.0 to 4.2 and 4.1 to 4.2, as most users have upgraded from 3.5 by now. This would not have happened when upgrading from 4.x. But as for other issues, I think you'll be ok. It was collections and playlists that have the most difficult upgrade path from 3.5.
ChrisJ60 8
Yeah well, I put off updating from 3.5 to 4.x waiting for it to be reasonably stable and for the various issues people reported with it being unable to (re)start to be fixed. Seems that caution bit me in a different way.
