Using VPN without Losing Remote Access

I've seen a few threads on the topic, but none that I can easily follow. I use NordVPN sometimes on my media server machine, but can't seem to get the remote access to remain unaffected. There's a combination of settings I must add to my TP-Link Archer A7 Router that also use my No-IP.com Dynamic DNS service...but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help really appreciated; I'd hate to cut off a family member that's trying to access it.

Hi, most likely you'll probably need to configure the vpn to allow the traffic, right?

Yes...though the NordVPN app doesn't seem to have the necessary settings...although my router seems to. I'm just not quite sure how to fill it out...

Senna

@@Senna do you have experience with this vpn?

No.

@sundevil67 should also contact NordVPN about this issue.

After all, he's paying for their service, so maybe they can advise what to do.

I've just learned that NordVPN explicitly doesn't support port forwarding, so I guess I'm SOL. This is frustrating because whenever I want to connect to the VPN, I have to lock out anyone who'd be trying to access the media server at that time. I guess it's just something I'll have to workaround. Thanks.

Right now I have all of my media files on an external USB drive connected to my Mac. I'm wondering if it's worth trying to connect the drive to my router instead, thereby eliminating the problem of locking out visitors from outside my network if I need to connect my Mac to the VPN. I'm a little hesitant though and don't want to muck up what I finally got working. Does this require any special mods to settings in Emby, or just for my router? Thanks!!

You just need to share the files on the network and then add the share to Emby. this is not going to change anything related to external access though.
