random left/right scrolling when paging down

I couldn't find a topic for this, so please forgive if this addressed in another thread.

The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) has taken a ding for a simple behavior quirk when using the guide.

I don't even notice it personally, but she says it's driving her up the wall..

When using the Electronic Guide for Live TV and scrolling thru, it occasionally will reset to an earlier time (left) between the rows of the guide.

At first I thought this might be due to a show length being different between the rows. But I've seen her demo it to me where it jumps back

a couple of hours or so on the subsequent row when iterating thru and it sure didn't look like it was due to different length shows.

This is mainly because she likes to go out to prime time, set record for individual shows manually that way... and then manually scroll down thru her fav channels and still keep the same basic time frame, then record more individual shows in that time frame.. When the occasional row iteration pops her back a few hours..she has to scroll right again to get to her original same time frame...And that extra step is driving her a bit bonkers.. Apparently it works the other way too, forward on occasion. Again.. doesn't seem to be because of a different duration in the shows between the channels.

There is probably some unseen logic for this.. but I don't know what it is. Can someone enlighten me as to what the logic is?

Or even tell me it might be classified as a feature change or a bug fix or am I just complaining too much?

Thanks

Okay, so the issue here is more than likely different length programs - especially if there are channels in between with no program data.

The problem is we're fighting with the standard focus handling of the Android system.  It is trying to land you on the item below/above the middle of the item you are currently on.  I wish we could adjust that to be the left but that's just not how it works.  To complicate matters, if you are scrolling quickly, the items are being created dynamically as you scroll just before they are visible on screen and this can complicate the process of Android choosing where to land as well.

Before we had the free-scrolling guide we were able to control this much better but it is much harder now that we have that.  In short, the Android system is not really expecting items in a scrolling list to be of so many different sizes and start/stop positions.

We would like to improve this in the future as best we can.

Thanks.

Thank you for the explanation.  It's a limitation of the android system's ability / support for focusing down a list.... Makes sense. Had to ask...
