Hello

My m3u playlists have stopped working for some weeks now.

They are stored in a Playlist folder, which is included in my music library.

m3u playlists are still visible, but playing them triggers an "Error - No compatible streams are currently available".
It's possible to open the playlists, but they appear to be empty.

There is no trouble with path (absolute path, E:\Music\FLAC\Ava Max\Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho.flac) or case.
Everything worked well before. They are encoded as UTF8 and play just fine in Windows media player.

Here is a sample from the log file after adding a new playlist
2019-06-26 22:36:30.890 Debug App: Refreshing Playlist E:\Music\Playlists\Compilations\Hits 2010s\NRJ Hit Music Only 2019.m3u because item.RequiresRefresh() returned true
2019-06-26 22:36:30.891 Debug App: Running PlaylistItemsProvider for E:\Music\Playlists\Compilations\Hits 2010s\NRJ Hit Music Only 2019.m3u
2019-06-26 22:36:30.893 Debug App: Running PlaylistXmlProvider for E:\Music\Playlists\Compilations\Hits 2010s\NRJ Hit Music Only 2019.m3u
2019-06-26 22:36:30.893 Debug App: PlaylistXmlProvider returned no metadata for E:\Music\Playlists\Compilations\Hits 2010s\NRJ Hit Music Only 2019.m3u

Thanks for you help

Laurent.

Hi Luke

Update to 4.2.0.23 and 4.2.0.24 today didn't solve my issue, even after a clean new install and library rebuild.

Emby 4.1.1.0 installed on another computer works well with my m3u playlists.

I also noticed that emby added .xml files in my directory yesterday. The xml do not contain any song

You will find attached one such xml file. I also tried to upload one m3u file, but I'm not allowed to do so.

My m3u files are UTF8 encoded and look like this :

#EXTM3U

E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Maître Gims\Maître Gims - Miami Vice.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Angèle\Angèle - Balance Ton Quoi.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Pedro Capó & Farruko\Pedro Capó & Farruko - Calma (Remix).flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie\A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie - Look Back At It.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Lewis Capaldi\Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Ofenbach\Ofenbach - Rock It.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Bigflo & Oli\Bigflo & Oli - Sur La Lune.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Showtek\Showtek - Listen To Your Momma.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Amel Bent\Amel Bent - Demain.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Mathieu Koss\Mathieu Koss - Never Growing Up.flac
E:\Music\Music\FLAC\Gavin James\Gavin James - Always.flac

Thanks for your help.

Nothing special I guess: I add three folders to a music library called Musque: one for FLAC files, one for mp3 files and one for playlists (see capture 1 & 2.jpg)

FLAC and MP3 folders are organised by Artists

Playlist files are organized as follows (see capture 3.jpg) :

Playlists

    Albums Français

    Albums internationaux

    Compilations

        Hits 60s

        Hits 70s

        …….

Playlists are well identified by Emby, but appear to be empty, as if there was an issue with the path.

But path are correct.

Thanks.

And here is an xml playlist files generated with Emby, to show that path are identical to whose included in m3u playlists

I never tried relative path, but will give it a try.

It's probably related to the format of the file i bet.

That playlist does not show duration/runningtime of the playlist.  Are there errors in the log when this playlist was created?

Most of my playlists have been build using Windows media or mediamonkey and are using the full m3u description format. Only a few have been built manually and are simple text files such the one I showed you.

I'm experiencing the issue with all my playlists, including whose using the regular full format.

I made some tests on 2 playlists. Changing to relative path didn't solve the issue.

Not that I know anything about m3u playlists but testing them with full path items are not being read/displayed but relative m3u files in album folder are.

I guess technically m3u with full path are read but no items are displayed as Emby knows it is a playlist.

I notice you are placing playlists into there own folder.

tested on 4.2.0.24

m3u files created by mp3tag

update

Test m3u with full path in album folder and it works in 4.1.1.0.  Don't know if they should work outside of album folder but could not get them to display items if m3u was placed in a different folder in stable or beta.

@Happy2Play is that the same music folder path you added to emby server?

@Happy2Play is that the same music folder path you added to emby server?

Yes, library points to "C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Music".

It is odd also that a m3u without the #EXT information will appear in My Media Playlist library and Music library-Playlists tab but a m3u with #EXT info will not, only in Music library-Playlists tab.  M3U inside album folder.

Hi

I modified yesterday 2 playlists, using relative path. These playlists were finally well recognized by emby (it took time, probably because emby was too busy, rebuilding the whole library after the clean re-install).

I've just modified all my playlist to switch from absolute to relative and everything works well now.

I don't mind using relative or absolute paths, so it's OK for me.

It's however odd that emby doesn't manage properly Playlists, whatever the folder structure or the way path are provided.

What about all xml files that have been generated within my Playlist folder ? There are still empty. Is it only for debug purpose (and should I delete them) or does this prelude some new functionalities (and I should keep them) ?

Thanks.

I have not seen any issue with playlist.xml files in my tests.  All mine are working without issue.
